I looked that up, and it's true. $10 plus tips

and the prices are higher....so what would cost you $13 for an entree in LA costs you $22

I am just against tipping as a concept of subjective pay for service. I want server compensation to be in the price of the menu, same as the cooks.

I'm betting Sapp overheard some comment by the waiter that blacks don't tip.

I'm probably in the minority, but if I heard this, I would probably tip something exorbitant like 30-40%.

To me, that's a much better "frick you" than simply reaffirming their assumption.

The only problem with server wages being built into the menu is that you could easily tack on 10$ an entree. So now your 20$ steak is a 30$ steak. There would be an uproar about food prices.

This being said I work the bar in a well known local restaurant and while I get tipped badly sometimes I don't survive off their money. I survive off the tips I receive from the regulars that frequent (3+ times a week) my place of employment and who I have built a relationship with.

Now the regulars who come 3 times a week, demand above average treatment, and still don't tip are the real a-holes

Nope. Goes back to the days when whitey refused to acknowledge blacks as men.

All of the people I have known who have been waiters always loved to complain about bad tippers and how everyone should tip more blah blah blah. However, they also loved to brag about how much money they made in so few hours. For instance:

quote:

I worked there part time 4-5 nights a week in June and made over $2000 in tips alone for the month

So he worked part time and made $2000 in tips and basically tax free. Lets extrapolate that shite out to full time imagining that part time is 20 hours, and that is $4000/month. That is $48000/year (probably more if you calculate what one would need to make to clear that after taxes). Not too shabby considering it requires no more than a GED and ok balance.

It's why I hated cooking after a while. Even at my highest I was at $13 an hour.
The servers would make $150-200 a night on average. I would make $104 before tax.

Busting my arse for eight solid hours. watching them go to the breakroom and brag about the tips.

Cooking is a lot harder than serving.

It was my experience that cooks get the worst amount of work/pay ratio in a restaurant. It is probably the hardest job in most restaurants. At least I didn't have to deal with customers which is why I ended up doing it for a little while. Bad decision in retrospect. The best amount of work/pay ratio is probably delivery if you are at that kind of place. Minimal customer interaction, and you still get tips. The only big downside comparatively is worrying about wear to your vehicle.

On the OT maybe. You just tip based on how well you were treated.

Finally, tip a flat, but reasonably generous, dollar amount per person in your party. Around 20 percent of Americans, mostly older people, tip a flat amount

people wonder why there are a shortage of cooks now. Restaurants start at $8 an hour. If given the choice between fast food and line cook for the same amount, I'm doing fast food.

It is the standard social convention that you tip based on percentage. They even make tip cards for people who can't do the math in their head.
