I'm really digging this show so far

i understand how people feel no connection to any of the characters. there is too damn many of them for this early in the series.
RIght now i see it as a more overall view of the world after the event than focusing in on individual characters. I think the show is doing a great job so far

which is fine IMO, it's not important
It is of paramount importance, in my opinion, because it keeps the writers honest. With no consequence or explanation on the horizon the writers can create meaningless storylines that go nowhere with no repercussions.

Last night's episode was fantastic IMO. Even though it's only three episodes in, the first two didn't really give the audience anyone to really connect with, just a cop who has a wife and son at two opposite ends and a daughter who is going through the same thing as her father but coping differently. It's interesting but there's no empathy there. Last night I had to shut my eyes while the priest was gambling because I really did not want to see him lose. Then when the thugs tried to steal his money he did what I hoped he would do and smashed that dude's head in. But it was kinda cliche to see the whole incorruptible become corrupt.

the entire third episode was devoted to the preacher.

bro you better just accept this
even stories that fail will be praised for their character analysis, regardless of how bad it is

That was my favorite episode so far. I realize they say they won't explain the event but what's up with the different animals. Maybe the raptured peeps all got reincarnated as animals and some are drawn to there former loved ones.

This was definitely the best episode. I am still not sold on this show, but I am in for another couple of weeks.

likely will also never get answered.
this is the type of show that we are never going to know anything the characters don't know themselves. We will get speculation, but no answers.
Like dan and SFP say, its cheap crappy writing that gives the writers endless freedom with no consequences.

Remember how it kept showing that painting where it looks like someone is holding their hand over someone else's mouth.. I thought he was going to interpret that as a sign to kill his wife

We got background and current info on 2 most mysterious characters in the show so far. But the character analysis is garbage.

she might be already dead... you think the nurse/caretaker stayed for 3 days unpaid while preacher was asleep in the hospital?

The wife and I discussed this and hoped she at least called an ambulance or took her to a hospital

gotta say, as cliche as last night was/seemed to be, i actually enjoyed it alot.
I did, too - upon reflection, he has to realize that the pigeons are guiding him in a particular direction, and that he needs the money for another reason.
I'm curious as to how he reacts - he is the most realistic character so far, and has delivered probably the best acting performance, so far.
I like Theroux, but the chief is a little too one-dimensional right now. The GR people having to act without speaking are also pretty impressive, particularly Judging Amy and the boss gal. I really haven't seen enough of the rest of the crew to judge. I even turned to Mrs. Midnight last night and said, "Story is still a little vague and strange, but this is being acted pretty damned well."

but why did he pick red over black?

Pigeons (2) told him which table to play.
Pigeons (3) told him to bet on the red, presumably 3 times (at the stoplight).

Could be - there are also 3 lights on the traffic light.
But there were 3 pigeons - the first was in front of the church, 2 were on the roulette table (again, I assume the first one and a buddy), then the 3 (the 2 from the table, plus another friend?) on the traffic light.
Maybe my analysis is off. Mrs. Midnight totally called it, "The losers are going to steal his money." The one thing I didn't see was him going Rambo and f*cking your boy up. Episcopalian ministers aren't generally militant.
His story looks to be the most intriguing thus far - he "lost" someone on the 14th, but she's neither dead, nor gone. And his sister is the one who lost everyone. That scene with the 2 of them is one of the most intense scenes I've watched since the end of Breaking Bad - on par with some of the more intense GoT scenes of the last season.

If he would've just put it on 3 in the first place he would've won $700,000
