Product of the times or quality television?
Just started binge watching it on Netflix. I think it is pretty good, but I am a sucker for the crime genre. The use of music is spot-on, and the pure 80s attire is awesome. My favorite episode so far has been "Smuggler's Blues."

I think quality - I do cringe, a little, at how dated the fashions are, but I was a pretty loyal watcher at the time. You're absolutely correct on the use of music - this single show probably redefined what a show could do with popular music.
It was also able to draw an extraordinary level of cameos, from stars to be, big stars, and celebrities from non-acting fields - truly amazing in hindsight.

It has a great mix of popular cuts and infectious original music.

It's mostly quality. I think of it a lot like the original Star Trek. You have some episodes that still resonate today, and then you have a bunch of filler bullshite.
In the Air Scene
Still one of the greatest scenes in television history.

A music video with dialogue & commercials! It was the coolest thing on TV in the mid-eighties, probably the hottest show too.

I haven't watched enough of this show honestly, but I'm a sucker for the crime genre as well. Will watch it soon, no doubt

oh man, that was like the first TV show I can remember watching when I was a kid.
I mean I don't remember it that vividly from back then but I would occasionally watch the reruns on USA as the years went on.
then two Christmases ago, I got the whole box set as a gift. Pretty cool gift IMO.
the show was really good the first 2 seasons but then about halfway through the 3rd season it seems like it slowly started to fade out.
in the 4th season they had this episode where Trudy sees a UFO or something. It was a WTF type of episode.
a game changer for the worse.
but James Brown and Chris Rock were guest stars on that one.
they had an unbelievable amount of guest stars on that show. People who were already famous and people who were up and coming.

Yeah, I watched that one while looking for the best episode. It was pretty good. Hank was a great character. Tons of hilarious one-liners in the episode. It was kind of confusing to follow though with all the different criminals.

quote:Great episode! Hank was played by Bruce McGill, who also played D-Day in Animal House. Pretty cool dude. He hung out at my bar when they were filming Runaway Jury in town.

The best episode was "Definitely Miami" with Ted Nugent.
