Is all of downtown Houston safe?

Plan to stay at Embassy Suites on Dallas which is a few blocks off Main. Is this a terrible walk to rail and to nightlife? More importantly, is it a safe walk?

For the most part yes but Houston has no zoning laws so you can go from nice to getting shot really quick

OT must not be safe enough for this thread.

for the most part yes.
bums all over downtown/midtown, but just avoid going to far SouthSouthEast of Downtown or East of Downtown and you'll be fine

How far is downtown Houston from the staduim?

Reliant? Too far to walk but you can take the light rail.
Downtown for the most part is safe. Just don't venture too far off.

This isn't the first Houston-related thread I've seen on here...

I live in downtown Houston and walk around alone pretty much every day. Granted, I'm a guy, but I've never had any issues.
If you're staying at Embassy, you're not far from the rail, but the walk to the station may be a block or two.

I hear you, but you're familiar with the area, a family walking around decked in LSU threads, Mardi Gras beads, probably looks like a pretty good target, I live near Southlake, TX, which is the ultimate soccer mom, yuppie haven on the west side of DFW, and there was a drug hit in Southlake town square last year, people were so scared they were spilling their lattes on each other

Safer than most major downtown areas

Your more likely to get asked for money, then be in any danger.

Dude, I rode the rail from the transit center to Reliant for the races with my wife. It was 12 noon, and it was a no shite freak show. Wow. Homeless people were everywhere downtown. More than I had ever seen. This was daytime too..

There's lots of bums in downtown Houston. Just really disgusting bastards that love being disgusting. But I don't hear of a lot of violence.

There's no nightlife in downtown Houston.

Not true. The area around Market Square is coming up. Used to be more black clubs but don't really know - not my scene.
Downtown is perfectly safe imo. Lots of homeless but I haven't had a problem.

True. I'm even seeing can shakers in Katy now. Worthless bastards. I don't ever remember seeing so many beggars in my life as in the past year. And in a city like Houston, jobs are very easy to come by. If you can stand in the heat all day holding a sign, then you can work.
