I agree you do this, sometimes.

quote:

The whole entire defense frustrated last year but for some reason 31 was the scapegoat.

He's in the middle of the action and has a lot of responsibility to make plays. It wasn't always his fault things went poorly (safety play was the worst I've seen it since 2008), but it was easy to see his flaws on the field.

You could just as easily say you hope Anthony Jennings makes an all-conference team at the end of the year to prove the naysayers wrong, but I have yet to see you do that.

If AJ took a counts hair fraction of heat on here that welter does you'd have a point.

Two total different scenarios.

AJ hasn't even had a chance yet and people are already writing him off for his whole career

At least Welter has a season of on field play to point too

Why wouldn't they be excited about the next best things on defense? This isn't the NFL.

Last year we had the worst run defense LSU has seen in the last decade. Hard to say that Welter wasn't part of that issue.

Not saying he won't be good this season, but it would suprise the hell out of me.

I'm all for having a smart guy in the middle of the D putting everyone in their place, I really hope Welter has been pissed all off season an has gotten a lot better, but he couldn't even shed a block against Furman. I just hope if he doesn't get the job done chief makes the change fast an don't make us watch the same crap as last year!!!

I know this is college but we had a kid on Union High that started as a freshman at safety. He made slow reads and reacted even slower, but this year he really played out of his mind so i'm just going to wait and see.

Yeah this has been my whole thing. Disappointment all around, yet the guy who was thought to be the week link is the guy that gets scapeqoated when at times his more athletically gifted teammates couldn't make a play either. I guess its just crazy to think just maybe he was our best option. What's he going to say? No coach, I suck, I refuse to go in the game?

What is big enough? Because Sheppard and minter were deemed not big enough.

He's laying the proverbial foundation for his intentions of starting Welter every game this season.

we all saw him lost during the games and get pushed around. he may be a practice warrior but he has had very FEW bright spots at that position. he took terrible angles and got frozen during the games too many times.

we've all heard chief praise him before in the spring, so let's see how he has improved before anointing him the savior of the LSU defense...

You think Welter isn't big enough when Kwon (who's solid as they come) probably weighs 225 and won't get much bulkier.

Or 6-0 230 Lamar who will get a lot of PT, I'm assuming he isn't big enough either for you?

We aren't Bama. We don't need 260 pound ILB
