Not making excuses for him, but unless that weed charged involved an armed robbery or something, no way he should have done that time.
ETA: I now realize this was for the other guy, but still...

And Jesus said to them, "I command unto you: dismiss and disparage the homeless. They are looking for handouts and probably like being homeless. Survival of the fittest is the only route into heaven."

cas4t Former Tiger great Malcolm Scott is living under an overpass. quote: Doesn't really change anything about what I said though. Without 3 years of jail time, it would be significantly easier for him to find a job now wouldn't it? I'm assuming you've never been so low that you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. People who assume the homeless could just "get a job flipping burgers" are ridiculous. You do realize someone has to choose to hire you, right? I can't fathom the line of thinking of a homeless person, but I can assume they are depressed. And I've been depressed. And it's not easy to just snap out of it and right the ship. It takes time, help from others, and more time.
Cas4t I don't know you but you have single handedly restored my faith in this site and posters. All the talk during recruiting saying stay in state, we take care of our own. Blah blah blah, then rip on the guy who did and hit hard times, whether self induced for not, the man is hurting. Analyzing his words to dissect his intent is disingenuous of the group and the fact is he is an LSU Tiger, he is in need and anyone who demeans him without living a day in his shoes is an arse.

I spent several hours w him at a bar in Atlanta prior to the '07 SECCG.
We talked a lot about St Aug and the fact that he played in the state championship game vs my high school back in the day.
He is related to another Tiger player who I got to know in my days at LSU. He talked about getting his life together, and managed to collect about $30 from my group to cover his travel back home that night. Lol
I bought him a few drinks for his trouble. I do remember a thread on here related to his employment back in LA, and expected it to be very short term.

Where are those "If you choose to go out of state, you lose the support we give to our Tigers in Louisiana" group? Well here is a Tiger who needs help. And what does he get, this JA calling him lazy.

When Ill befalls you or broken in spirit or in need. Please remind me who you are and the quote from above. For I will be the first to disparage and remind you that you really indeed like living under that bridge hopeless and your ultimate death is just prophesy proven true. If you are in fact serious with the quote from a Matthew not from the bible.

Such a nice one you are. I wonder if you speak to people in person like that? I highly doubt it. But if you do, I wish I could give you the opportunity.

How much do you think a fast food job pays? Enough for an apartment? Maybe. Enough for food, clothes and transportation? No.
Oh, bullshite! If you work a fast food job, and earn a pittance, when you file your tax return the government PAYS YOU. It's easily enough to have food, shelter, air conditioning, and HD TV.
There are NO poor people in the USA except illegal aliens and people who are too emotionally or intellectually debilitated to fill out paperwork. I would guess that the unfortunate Mr. Scott falls into the emotionally debilitated category.
BTW, he was not, as someone earlier posted, just a good tight end; he was an excellent one.

No one in this thread has "analyzed his words" or demeaned him. I certainly don't think asking the question of "can't he find a job somewhere?" is demeaning the guy. I don't think I have seen anyone say that they are happy this guy is living on the streets and that he deserves it.
When you play football for LSU and in the NFL you have ALL the chances in the world. People are saying that to think he could just get a job is ridiculous. Really? Once he got hurt and his NFL playing days were over, he couldn't have gotten a job doing just about anything that didn't require a specialized degree, i.e. sales? I think it's a pretty fair question to ask.
And if you are such a Bible hugging, holier than thou frick...why don't you go find him and pull him off the streets and give him a job and a place to stay?

#1 being a st. aug alumn will get you plenty opportunities for work in new orleans.
#2 being a former lsu football player with nfl experience will get employers interested right away at a lot of places in Louisiana.
that's two things that will at least get his foot in the door. plus construction in la is booming right now. a lot of companies, especially commercial, will hire guys straight out of prison. so its either he doesn't want a job or he has something wrong with him that he can't control anymore.

well he lives under a bridge so I am going to go with:

How do we know people haven't given him help in the past due to who he is and he's pissed it away? A lot of assumptions with little facts are being made by both sides here.

He was a pretty solid TE for the Tigers. He, like Ramsey Dardar, let drugs get the best of him.

sad situation , regardless of how MS got to where he is today.
gonna send up a prayer hoping he is given another oppty and/or makes a conscious decision to help himself.
I have no doubt that St. Aug and LSU alumni have tried to offer support and help one of their own in times of despair. Malcolm Scott needs to help Malcolm Scott since he is the only person who can get himself out of this situation. If he suffers from mental illness or depression, he's eligible to receive medical treatment through a State facility

Not sure of the problem, but if it is emotional, someone ought to have the ability to commit him on a PEC for a bit. An evaluation, some rest, nutrition, and meds would help. However, I am saying that without knowing the whole story on this guy. I remember him playing. There are some that when you take football away from them it is as if you take their world away from them. It's the only thing they have known. It's been a rather hard for many and I can see where that might lead to a depression. Again, though, I don't know the whole story on this gentleman.

Yes he was demeaned and words analyzed and speculated over. Not sure why all the anger, doesn't matter what did or didn't happen to me, the fact is he's suffering. I don't care about your negative attitude or understand it. I never read or quoted scripture from the Bible nor would I because as a Jew we call it The Torah. I'm not holier than anyone just don't like suffering or negative comments from others regarding situations without knowledge of details. No need to shout someone down and I don't understand why you chose to do so, I choose to think differently.
