Nice. Do you recommend a text book? I was reading comment about how time consuming the course was. Was that your experience?

The textbook provided is good, albeit a little outdated. It makes references to "current" event from 10 years ago. But the content is still relevant.

I could have spent more time reading it, but the lectures are just as important. For instance, the textbook doesn't mention flighting or pulsing advertising, but the lectures do. Apparently I missed those terms in the lecture and was confused about them on the exam.

Overall, it's a good course taught at the level that it should be taught at by a good professor.

I was told there is no textbook. The school said one wasn’t required. Which one did you use? I’ve read here that another instructor required Marketing Strategy by Kottler/Armstrong. Same book?

There are no physical textbooks...all PDF versions of them. They are older so sometimes the author's name has been withheld. Khan uses a book called (surprise) Principles of Marketing.

Marketing Strategy is used by Prof Darrat.

Hi, I am about to take ACCT 701 (starting on 3/18) with Yuan and while searching for reviews I stumbled across your post. Can you provide some insight on her class? It would be greatly appreciated.

The course with Dr. Judy (ACCT 701) is straightforward. Please be prepared to spend at least 3-4 hours every week to go through PDF materials (2 chapters) and try out the exercises for each week. No big hurdles such as MKT classes. Thanks.!

Any suggestions for MADM 701 with Nicole Philips as I need to decide by today ? Not seen much feedback on this professor. I choose her over F. Williams. Is she a better choice ? Thank you for your help !

Seconded!! Are you starting on the 18th too? So far, the feedback I've gathered is that he isn't difficult as long as you put in the time (which I'm told can be extensive). I wanted to start with one class since I've been out of school for 2 years so I chose MKT to dodge Math for the time being. The info I've gathered is that the class is not necessarily difficult but is time consuming due to writing assignments, lectures and readings. Hopefully someone here can give us a little more information.

Was MKT that bad? Can you elaborate? Was it difficult or just required a lot of time?

Hi, I'm taking McLaughlin's 760 in AP2. Please share your experience. Thanks.!

Here you go:

MADM 760 – McLaughlin
In one phrase – “Almost great!”
Difficulty (out of 5) - 3

Comments – This is what MKT 701 could be when it grows up. MADM 760 seems to have the opposite issue of MKT 701 in that pretty much all the professors come recommended, as opposed to MKT 701 where none of them are. While interaction is weak in McLaughlin’s (aka practically none), the workload is very balanced from week to week making it easier to plan for. A weekly quiz on 1-2 chapters, 6 discussion posts with multiple questions to respond to and two responses each (weeks 1-6), and a 3 paragraph weekly “current event” paper tied to the course material. A little guidance on word count would be nice, video lectures, a public forum and a bit more interaction would be nicer. The course material is relatively straightforward and the text does a relatively good job explaining the concepts. The quizzes can get very detailed however, and just understanding the macro concepts without (sometimes highly specific) details on how and when they work will make you lose points. This is the main source of “difficulty” for the class, because the writing is pretty straightforward. No fluff writing, no group work, no project, and no mega paper. Only quirk of the course is a slightly odd (to me) requirement to cite the textbook for every current event assignment, not just incorporate the concepts.

“A” Strategy – You need to make your initial post very early (Tuesday) followed by two response posts on two different days making the timeline a bit tight imho. Focus on the discussion post right away, I usually follow up with my first response that same night. Once again, you need to follow the rubric, but it’s also relatively vague. Just write a response for each question, which should probably be about a paragraph each. It probably wouldn’t hurt to throw in a vocabulary word or two from the text for the week. You will also need to read the text early on, because your second writing assignment must be tied to at least one concept from the course material. I recommend trying to tie in several to be safe, and most articles should support this anyway since the weekly topics are pretty closely related. The current event paper also partially prepares you for the quiz. The text is decent with a few topics and examples to assist understanding. However, note that the test questions can get pretty detailed, so you really will need to actually study, as opposed to just reading once. I highly recommend answering the T/F and Multiple Choice questions provided at the end of each chapter. You can review the powerpoint (if you want) right before the test to refresh your memory on those topics but it isn’t enough on its own. For writing, I recommend about a paragraph for each question (3-4 questions) for the discussion posts and 1 – 1.5 pages (3 paragraphs, double spaced, 12 point font) for the current event assignments. Don’t forget to amply cite the text for the current event assignments (don’t just cite the text once). The key for McLaughlin’s class is concise, detailed, and quality writing instead of needless verbosity.

Time Commitment – 10 - 20 hours/week (The low range is enough for an easy B, the high range for an A). A bit repetitive but the predictable nature of the course load is good for managing your schedule. Highly recommended version for those whose time is at a premium, as the other professors appear to have much higher time commitments.

Does anyone know when the Schedule of Classes for the summer and fall semesters will be published? We were able to see what classes were being offered by each professor via the Schedule of Classes much earlier for the spring semester, but it still hasn't been put on the LSUS website.

Need help in understanding workload of courses

I have six courses left to complete my MBA and I am planning as below

Spring AP1
ISDS 702 - koksal
ISDS 705 - Lin
FIN 710 - Hseih

Spring AP2
FIN 720 - Hseih
MADM 701 - Felice Williams

Sum AP1
MKT 701

I am concerned about spring ap1 as I am taking 3 courses. I can move ISDS705 to sum AP1 but not sure if I will have time in summer..
----------------------------------------------------------

Successfully completed 3 courses in Spring AP1

This forum has been helpful in deciding the course loads and professor preferences, I would like to add here my experience of taking 3 courses in Spring AP1

It is possible to take up 3 courses but you will need to know your strength and if you have prior experience it is easy to skip some of the readings or just scan through once.

I have prior experience in Information Technology, beginner stats and like quantitative course loads instead of reading/writing. SO I took up ISDS 702 , ISDS 705 and FIN 710.

ISDS 702 with Dr. Koksal -> pretty straightforward and has minimum course load.

ISDS 705 with Dr. Lin -> Good amount of readings, I scanned and skipped lots of topics as I was already aware of, but the most difficult thing is to schedule proctorU and exam is only open for one day. So as far as flexibility is concerned its not that flexible to schedule exam

FIN710 with Dr. Hshei - Also, straightforward, most of my time was spent on problem solving and preparing template, I skipped the supplementary videos and zoom meetings as it covered same topics.

Because of this, I am on track to complete my MBA in 5 terms and only taking MKT701 in Sum AP1.

Thanks! How did your classes go? I think I have the same ones you just took in AP2, MKT 701 (Kahn) & MADM 715 (Isaacs)?

Finished my last final on Friday to wrap up the program! I doubled up 3 times—ISDS 705/ECON, ISDS 710/MADM 760, and FIN 701/MADM 710.

Good luck to you all! Not sure what to do with all this free time!

I'll throw in my .02 cents. I'm 30 years old and work for one of the most well known investment banks in the country as a private banker. I have my Series Licenses for investments and I was told by executives to go for my MBA with a school that is AACSB accredited. My company pays up to $20k for grad school. I live in Chicago and the brick and mortar B schools here would still cost me about $20-30k out of pocket. When I looked at LSUS they told me it was a no brainer. I believe the only thing I am missing out is on the networking opportunity, but as far as moving up in a company or just adding that missing piece to your resume, you can't go wrong with LSUS as long as it stays accredited. I compared my work with a family member who got his MBA from Depaul University (B school in Chicago) and it's literally the same material with the same degree of difficulty.
