Just finished FIN 710 Exam 3. I did a little better than the first 2 but I thought it was really tough. I ran out of time and didn't get to go back and review some that I flagged. The problems took a long time and I didn't always come up with a given choice on first attempt due to rushing so had to rework it.

I just finished exam 3 in FIN 710. I also ran out of time. It was pretty brutal.

Just FYI looks like ACCT 701 w Ambrosio has been reworked a little bit. There are 2 MC timed exams (the second is accumulative), an untimed T/F quiz each week that you can only take once, and a timed MC assessment each week that you can only take once.

In the old class none of the 3 exams were cumulative. They only covered the most recently read material. Also you had 2 un-timed assignments each week and you could check your answer on each question 3 times before submitting. If you had a question wrong it wouldn't give you the answer but it would sometimes give you a hint.
And that was basically the class. I found the accounting pre-req, BADM 700, to be a much better course for actually learning accounting. It was challenging but fair. Ambrosio's class felt more like a quick review.

Thanks DieDaily, I'm pairing FIN 701 next term with MADM 751 so just hoping for minimal busy work as this is the last time I need to pair classes before graduating at end of year.

The old ACCT 701 sounds a lot like the ACCT pre-req, it was a very easy course via Cengage. It would also let you check your work. I'm anxious to see how the new ACCT 701 is set up because everything is either T/F or MC. Not sure how that will work with an accounting class...

As you know, BADM 700 had you filling out nearly every line of an Income Statement or Balance Sheet along with the corresponding journal entries. To contrast, I could knock out both ACCT 701 assignments in under 30 minutes most weeks and the tests in about the same amount of time. I honestly thought the classes should have been swapped with one another. Nearly everything for that class was multiple choice.

Ambrosio seems like a cool professor. I'm going to email him and ask him straight out how the course has been modified and updated.

For those of you who did well on the 3rd Fin 710 test or have an A in the class can you please share your study habits or what you are doing to prepare? I need to get a high score to make a B in the class cuz I did not do so well on this last test.

Here is the reply I received from Dr. Ambrosio regarding the new redesigned ACCT 701 class:
"The class has been entirely redesigned. One of the reasons is to save each student a $300 textbook (that’s what the Cengage textbook used to cost each student). In some cases, it was also difficult for international students to obtain a Cengage textbook.
Quizzes and exams will cover the same material as the old offering of ACCT 701 because the course description and objectives have not changed. The vast majority of the material will be original and exams are written by me. As you already know, the textbook is different. This time around there will be a lot more videos (by me) and many other resources. While the last round of ACCT 701 happened primarily on Cengage, this round will happen solely on Moodle.
All in all, the class format will be very different, but the content will be the same. You may compare it to taking two different roads to getting to the same destination."

I've got to assume that some of our professors and other employees of LSUS are aware of and follow this TigerDroppings forum. Have any of you heard a professor acknowledge this site? I'm just curious.

Jkdaven, I'll preface by saying this is my only class this session and a slow time at work and kid functions so I probably have lots more time than most right now. I was able to bring my average up to an A with the last exam... barely.
Having already taken FIN 701 and 730, the formulas in this module were already familiar to me. That with the fact that we had 2 weeks between exams and I had no other class taking my time, I read the material and practiced working the problems a lot... Like 5 or 6 times. To the point were I didn't use a formula sheet. I had them memorized and knew when to use what formula and in what order. Despite all that I still thought the exam was draining and ran out of time on my last problem.
Good luck on the last exam. I started reading the material and it sure doesn't look any easier.

jkdaven, I am taking FIN 710 with ISDS 705 right now. For FIN I read through each chapter twice, and then work through the problems in the back of the chapter twice. Then I go through and make my self a packet of the formulas. I write out the formula and explain what each variable means. I then also write other pertinent formulas.(For example, If I need to solve a certain formula but one of the variables isn't given I write the formula used for that specific variable and so on. Then when I take the test make sure to have the book nearby and use the search function for the true or false to try and make the correct choice. I've really had to slow down on the True or False to make sure I understand what he is saying cause he often times takes one word out or adds one word in that changes the answer. Good luck, I currently have a mid-high B and would need to pull a perfect on the last test to make an A in the class
