Has anybody in Kungu’s MADM 701 seen anything about the grading rubric(s) for the Weekly Discussion Forums and Module Assignments? I’m trying to get an idea of the length requirements. (I HATE writing papers!)

I assume Shaughnessy will teach at least one of the sections during Summer AP2, but with all the changes in the program, who knows.

If I were you, I would do my best to take ECON with Dr. Shaugnessy. He has been, in my opinion, the best professor in the program, and it’s not even close. I would also say I learned more in that class than in any of the others I’ve taken thus far.
Anybody in ISDS 702 see Dr. Koksal’s latest post? He is curving the grade...adding 40 points to our point totals!!! Considering that he is a young professor, and new to the program, I feel bad for ripping him on here. At least I gave him an honest, thorough assessment on the evaluations so he can understand where a student might have found the course instruction to be lacking.

I just took the final exam in ISDS 702, and I gotta say it was rough. I felt like I guessed on about half of the questions, yet somehow I ended up getting 110/150 on it, which put me at an 84% on the class. This will be my first B in the program. While the interaction effects on multiple linear regression material got really difficult for me at the end, I don’t feel like the overall course material was too difficult. Rather, I think Dr. Koksal fell short as a teacher. This was my fifth course in the program (the others being ACCT 701, FIN 710, FIN 701, and ECON 705), so I feel like I’ve had a good sample of difficult professors/course materials (especially FIN 710) from the program, yet I managed high As in all of those courses. I’ve worked really hard towards a 4.0 in the program, and that hope is now gone.

Honestly, the way Dr. Koksal “taught” this class was ineffective. He was purposely vague, and at times totally unresponsive, to students on the discussion boards. And the one time I did email him, he didn’t respond for nearly a week. Couple that with the fact that he didn’t post his solutions to the Practice Problems until the end of the week, and the fact that he “restricted” access to previous weeks discussion forums, makes me feel like he really doesn’t understand or care about the whole learning process, at least as it translates to our grade. In my opinion, when learning new material, it is important to do work, make mistakes, and then be able to learn from your mistakes (which requires knowing where the mistakes were made), in order to truely learn. And it would’ve been great if we were able to do those things without a detrimental impact on our grades. Ah well. Rant over. Onward and upward. Best of luck to you all!

For AP1, any remaining financial aid should be credited to your account the day after the census date (9/5), and will be released by the school the following day. The funds should be in your bank account by that Friday (9/8).

I just finished exam 3 in FIN 710. I also ran out of time. It was pretty brutal.

I just took the FIN 710 exam as well. I managed an "A." I was certainly worried going in to it, as the graphical representations and conceptual reasoning for using all the various option combinations continue to elude me. Luckily, he stuck with the homework type problems for the majority of the questions, which weren't too bad if you prepared for them. Here's to one more down, ladies and gents!

*Attempts to insert two happy emojis clanging glasses of beer, but doesn't know how.*

P.S. I have a feeling that we are gonna lose about half the class in the coming week or so. I noticed that many of the discussion posts this week related to Ch. 4 material, mostly concerning how to use a calculator.

I found the exam in FIN 710 to be difficult as well. Several of my answers to the conceptual true/false questions were guesswork at best.

And I think I know which question you are referring to, because I had one that asked me to solve for standard deviation, and none of the answers made sense.

Good luck on the rest of the semester, everyone!

I just finished my first course in the program--ACCT 701--which was, in my opinion, too easy. However, I get the feeling that it's all "uphill" from here.

Does anybody have any insight as to which is an easier course: FIN 710 (Hsieh) or ECON 705 (Shaughnessy)? I minored in accounting and finance as an undergraduate, but looking thru the course materials for FIN 710, I get the feeling this is going to be quite difficult.

I guess my question is, do FIN 710 and ECON 705 presuppose a knowledge of Excel? I have used Excel, but would consider myself a novice at best. Any info is appreciated!

I emailed Shaughnessy--no Connect Access is required. I purchased a PDF version of the text for $28.
I just wanted to give my thanks to the many contributors on this board. The content of which ultimately helped me to make the decision to attend LSUS for the online MBA program. Cheers!
