So.. You are claiming that email cannot be backed up on Windows XP?
I see the cause of your inability to grasp common sense... you're hard of reading. Nobody said or suggested that Windows XP machines can't be backed up.

Interesting article on the missing emails LINK

Yes, they do. IRS policy requires employees to create and retain printed copies of all emails "created or received in the transaction of agency business."
Wrong. IRS regulations require employees to create and retain printed copies of emails that qualify as Federal records. Not all emails qualify, and there's no reason to believe Lerner didn't print those she was required to print.

So the relevance of them running Windows XP is?

You are correct, because she has been so truthful and forthcoming with information to this point

As I have said before I worked for DoD for 30 years. Believe it or not most agencies are way behind in technology. Many many agencies are using Windows XP still. Most agencies do not keep emails on a server past a certain time frame. Is the timing suspicious? Yes it is. But the explanations I've heard about destroying crashed hard drives, not keeping emails on servers unfortunately jibe with my career experiences.
Thank you. These wingnuts don't deal in reality.

How is an annual IT budget of over $1.8 billion considered "poorly funded"?

Absolutely. It indicates they're operating on older systems more prone to crashes.

Link to where Lerner didn't print something she was required to print.

It wasn't her software that crashed, it was her hardware. That they were running Windows XP is irrelevant.
***edit***
just re-read the quote and your response. You have a point, but it's so small as to be irrelevant.
We don't know the hardware particulars, they could be imaging new machines with XP for all we know (which some places still do).

These have been requested for months and months.
Where are they?
Since they haven't been produced, there is MORE THAN ENOUGH "reason to believe Lerner didn't print those she was required to print." (your words).
And, anything involving her official duties and relating to taxpayer's applications is "federal records." What is not is her lunch plans on any particular day.
So, where are these printed e-mails that the Internal Revenue Manual requires her to print out?

The entire premise of that article is that her computer crashed before this scandal broke to the media, so it's not suspicious. It's a poorly thought out premise, and doesn't hold up with the news in this very thread that the computer "crashed" ten days after it was apparent someone was on to her.

Sorry, but that's just stupid. Vendors don't even sell XP machines any more. Machines that run it are generally OLD.

So, it's now your contention that XP caused her (AND SEVEN OTHER PEOPLE RIGHT ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS THE INVESTIGATION WAS GETTING UNDER WAY) computer to crash.
I suppose that they cancelled their contract with the backup company -- coincidentally right at about the same exact time -- because of XP as well.
BTW, I have a brand new computer at work. But, we're still running XP as our company hasn't made the switch to 8.1 yet. With all the problems they heard with 8 they just wanted to wait a little while before switching everyone over. And, XP has been fine for us.

What about 3 years ago. Were they selling them then?

Ok, just out of curiosity and maybe it has been explained...
So, the IRS is claiming that none of the emails are on the servers, for one reason or another.... One of the excuses I heard was that they wipe the servers every few months/years and don't have ANY backups.
Well if this is the case, where did they get the email from the weeks after the "crash" where Lerner asks "Are any of my documents recoverable"???
Again, awfully convenient that they don't have anything being asked for and claim theres no chance in hell to get it, but can stand up and wave an email from a week after with the premise "see see, she inquired about the data, so it really happened"

The IRS has turned over 42,000 Lerner and relevant emails already, many of which were generated during the period of Lerner's crash but retrieved from her fellow coworkers.

Besides, who's responsibility is it to have proper equipment?
If I am hired to make deliveries for you, I doubt that you will be content with my not making a delivery because "my truck is old and unreliable".
Show me a person with a great excuse and I'll show you a person who NEEDS one.
