JR had a bigger arm (which is nuts), was more mobile, was stronger, and had a better QBR.
JR only learned how to run in his last months in college.
And it looked awkward as hell.
But of a tangent, but I think of EDSBS's live commentary blog covering the LSU/ND Sugar Bowl when JR's mobility comes up

midway through the 3rd quarter he was something like 9-22 for 100-odd yards, most of his completions came on the last couple of drives after Auburn started working to keep everything in front of them. Nevertheless he was late on a bunch of throws. Of course the refs didn't do him any favors either.
I don't remember his stat line midway through the 3rd.
I do remember a beautiful 40-60 yard pass to the TE get called back for the most b.s.holding over ever seen. Our lineman had 2 clubs for hands due to injury and didn't hold.
He also had a touchdown to lafell get taken away by a blatant, non called PI
We lost that game running over and over again with Broussard and Vincent for 0 ypc

the answer is JR everyday of the week and twice on Sunday
I'd take Jamarcus every day EXCEPT Sunday
just kidding, give me Jamarcus every day, dude was a monster, and he was drafted first overall for crying out loud.

Jr for sure. But I would throw Rohan in the mix. I liked him even better. His game against Alabama was one of the greatest ever

Fisher was no slouch so I don't think Cam makes a sig diff. I take JR by a pretty good margin
A. Fisher has since improved greatly.
B. Miles did not relinquish offensive control with Fisher like he does with his best friend Cam Cameron.
JR with Cameron is a Heisman contender. There is no doubt in my mind. One of the greatest physical specimens to ever play quarterback and in college he was damn good (accurate, clutch, etc.)

The offense in 2001 was incredible.

Russel couldn't remember a 10 play set in the NFL. I'm not sure if Cam Cameron would have necessarily helped. He cant understand anything too complex. But he was a above average "college" qb!

I'm sure this is entirely rooted in fact and not your perception and/or emotions based on his flaming out in the NFL.

The revisionist history surrounding JR always cracks me up.

I guess above average means the best QB in the country who completed 68% of his passes with 28 touchdowns to 8 interceptions his junior season with a 167 rating.
For comparison, Peyton Mannning's junior year:
63.9% 20 TDs, 12 Ints 147.7 Rating
Clearly just above average. Not sure why you used quotes there.

What does Jimbo know about QBs?
quote:
“I never knew that guy,” Fisher said on ESPN 760, talking about the lazy player Russell has become. “His work ethic for us — everything I ever asked him to do, he did. He was smart, he carried three and four play packages at the line of scrimmage.
“He is very talented and he is very intelligent,” Fisher said. “Intelligence isn’t an issue with him.”
Based on the pre-draft reports we remember, Russell’s football smarts were never a question.
Wonderlic Scores:
JR - 24
Tim Tebow - 22
Brett Favre - 22
Dan Marino - 16
Peyton Manning - 28
Drew Brees - 28
Big Ben - 25

well i remember him in a preseason game and he was given 10 plays. I think it was his last chance before the raiders cut him. He may have been "smart", but he didnt use it wisely. Because they announcers even said something about it because of who he was and who he was supposed to be. And despite only given 10 plays, he looked LOST.
It was probably his work ethic most though!
Dude ruined himself.

On this week's edition of "The Rich Eisen Podcast," Eisen passed along a version of the story from Warren Sapp, who was a teammate of Russell's on the Oakland Raiders. The coaches would send Russell home with a game-plan DVD loaded with plays and ideas to study. Suspecting that their bonus-baby quarterback was skipping his homework, the coaches slipped in a blank DVD one day. When Russell returned, he reportedly said the game plan looked good to him.

This is a little different than:

It's been well-documented that JR didn't care about anything, including himself and his career, after his uncle passed shortly after him getting drafted. His intelligence and abilities as football player were never in question. His desire and will to live, compete and improve himself and his career clearly were.

Why did you use quotes when calling him above average? In what world was he anywhere near average while at LSU?
