yeah, outside the fact they're both cities, New Orleans and Houston are not at all alike.

South LA has many more people, a unique culture, Catholics and less strict Protestants, stronger saints and LSU fans. North LA is much more like Mississippi or Texas depending where you are. Fwiw I also think the Mississippi gulf coast area is a lot like Louisiana.

No it's not.
North east/central Louisiana is nothing like Texas.
Just high dollar farm land and best hunting and fishing.
Like the Mississippi delta.

Yeah, it is, and East Texas is like Mississippi, is like Alabama, is like North Florida.

It's the fact that I have traveled with my eyes open, and lived outside this region of the country that I see such little difference in between any of the gulf coast states save South Louisiana. It's the same people.

LOL ... trying to do the same thing with my son. My daughter moved to Monroe a couple of years ago for college. She thought it was heaven, then saw that the difference between Monroe and Alex was like daylight and dark. She and her husband will be looking at other options in the near future.

Paige, did you ever get to experience Farmerville?
I did nine months of work there commuting from Monroe. Had another job on tap that allowed me to move back to Alex before that one ended. As soon as the contract was up, I was gone. They have a pretty lake there, but nothing more. Compared to it, Monroe was heaven. Everything can be relative. That said, I don't mind visiting Monroe as I still have friends there. Just like everywhere else, there are good and bad people there, but I would not want to live there again. The culture and I were not a good fit.

Pierre part>>>>>>>>all of Louisiana. I actually enjoyed my stay as a grad student at ulm even though I'm a south la boy. Also lived in Lafayette and loved it but hated my job.
