Need help choosing a monitor

I'm looking for a monitor for about $250 or less. I will be using it as a computer monitor for gaming and video editing for the next few months. I will be moving into a new apartment in a few months with my friend and will have a gaming setup in the living room. This monitor would then move to my personal room and be used for the same thing, but will also be used as a TV for either my old PS3 or a Playstation TV/some other type of "micro-console."
I have done some research and found the ASUS PA248Q. It's a little out of my price range at $290. So, would it be better to get a used one from Amazon for $250 or look into cheaper alternatives? There are a couple Dells I found that would make a great monitor but I will eventually need the HDMI input that they lack.
I also looked into the Playstation 3D Display because it has an HDMI input, but it has very mixed reviews. Plus, I could only really afford a refurbished one (which I'm not super sure about because of all the problems). Also, I don't plan on using 3D, but the built in speakers would make it nice so I wouldn't have to get speakers until I wanted to invest in high quality ones.
I can wait a couple months and afford something better and more expensive, too. After all, I don't NEED it right now.
With all that said, do you guys have an opinion on what I should do or have recommendations for other monitors in my price range?
Writing this out makes me just want to wait so I can afford the ASUS or something nicer though lol. Anyway, Thank you. I really appreciate any advice.

I've had two Asus monitors and love them. I have an Asus and Viewsonice side by side now and the Asus >>>>>>>>> ViewSonic.
I got the Viewsonice for free so that's why I have it
Have you checked Ebay or Microcenter?

I haven't checked either. Will look into them. I'm always wary of Ebay.

what bruce said
I've never had any trouble. I always find sellers with high rep and a good amount of sales. I prefer the buy it now option with free shipping if I can find it. It's just easier than outbidding someone when I know what I want and I want it soon

You have crossovers right?
Posted on 6/20/14 at 11:46 am to leRev
I'd buy Blue's or Coyote's WQHD monitor.

Dumb question, but what determines whether or not you can output 1440 from a GPU?
In other words, my GPU is not exactly new, but if I buy a 1440 monitor, is there a chance to get it to output at 1440?

2 crossovers on main rigs
1 shimian
1 yamakasi
Keeping the crossovers, just selling the other 2. Will use my crossovers for utility screens with a 4K cheap enough or worth paying 600+ w/ G-Sync/120hz.

I can't output to 1440. I'm actually thinking about waiting until August to build a pc and then get the monitor at that time. I don't need it right now for my laptop.

I have two of these. One is on my gaming PC, and the other is on my photo editing PC.
It's a nice big monitor, with HDMI and a built in sound bar. And it's right in your price range.

You bought another one blue? I still love the one I bought from ya. Only prob is my roommate threw a bunch of screws on my desk a few months abck and one hopped up and hit the monitor. So in the upper middle portion of my screen I have a little chip that looks like 3 dead pixels right next to each other. Just dealing with it
