How can you hurt the image of a town that smells like a paper mill and traffic on thomas road is worse than BR?

Things in Shreveport are not going to end well.

It was never a shining city on the hill, but it showed some signs of prosperity here and there in the last 10 years or so. That's not going to be the case going forward.

Well they are all very educated people who created a VERY successful small business and brought it nation wide WAY before the show. They have fun and value family. If that makes someone a moron then I hope people think Im an idiot.

We definitely need less people like the Robertsons in this country.

People like them are what is wrong with this country.

Ken Epperson introduced a resolution in the Caddo Commission (think parish board or police jury) to turn down the money from Duck Dynasty to sponsor the Independence Bowl.

I heard the audio tape on radio. Here is what he said:

"I think the racis and the homophic and the pottyzin is not what we want."

His resolution failed 6-3. They takin' the money.

Of course they are. We loves racists in Louisiana. They're our heros.

I met a good ole boy and his wife from Dallas, originally from West Monroe. He got all pissy with me when I asked him if he knew the Robertsons. Said they were NOT from Monroe and he knew everyone growing up there and they're FOS.
No one from West Monroe would give a shite if Monroe was debased and vice versa.

True statement except a Shreveport company controlled the most natural gas in the world at one point, was the metro area closes to one of the most significant geologic oil and gas events of all time (The Sabine Uplift) also the East Texas play, Rodessa, Hosston, among others. Basically ran country and western music out of town to Nashville, lost ATandT, GM, Standard Oil of La., United Gas, United Diesel, Beaird Industries, bought the land for Barksdale and donated it to the government, making concession effecting Shreveport yet forgetting the land stood in Bossier Parish who over time has prospered because of it and on and on. Some attrition is going to happen, but to have them all fold up speaks to the environment and attitude of leaders who didn't want growth or commerce and loss of control. Shreveport has both the most cheap and disengaged wealthy community whose mostly old money derived from generations past and concerned with only preservation of capital and no real commerce. It's a suck town not because of lack of resources but an abundance of graft and good ole boy bullshite. It's a good deal for LSU though most preferring to give to the university's tiger cage with their name on it, then their own community.

But it was once the clear second largest city in Louisiana, an oil & gas center, and home of the corporate headquarters of United Gas and Texas Eastern, who both later moved to Houston.

For Shreveport historians: I wonder how the plane crash in the early 1950s, that took out several civic and business leaders, affected the course of the city afterward and had they lived, could they have helped prevent its decline. Demographics likely would have ultimately caused it anyway.

The decline of the NW LA oilfields was the key factor. By the time the shale boom rolled around, most of the business was being done in Houston. It still has pumped quite a bit of money into SPort-Bossier, as has the movie industry. Shreveport still has some decent neighborhoods within the city limits, and some decent public schools, things that are gone or fast disappearing in BR. I wouldn't choose to live either place, but if you forced me, I'd choose Shreveport over BR.
