After weeks of speculation, Gov. Bobby Jindal announced his plans to try to yank Louisiana out of the Common Core education standards. The Republican governor planned a Wednesday news conference to talk about Louisiana's use of the English and math benchmarks adopted by most states.
Jindal opposes the standards as an attempted federal takeover of education. He's said he's looking at executive actions to scrap use of Common Core.

So will he now reject all federal intrusion and dollars in Louisiana schools?

He was part of the group that created it. He also appointed a staunch common core supporter to run the dept of education.

This comment proves how little people know about Common Core.
Common Core was called for and created by the Governors Association of America in conjunction with school districts across the country. The Obama administration merely said they supported it and people went ape shite.
When Louisiana's big industries like oil and gas and successful billionaire businessmen like Bill Gates (I know, oh god, liberal) spend millions creating the standards, then uninformed mom and pops dispute it, who do you really think is right on this issue?
Jindal is pandering. This isn't because it's the right move.

He was for it before he was against it...kinda like John Kerry??
Can't wait to see how Camp Jindal re-creates the narrative for his 2016 rainbow.

Yep. And he did all that because Common Core is the right direction to go, even if people scream because they think it's an Obama indoctrination tool.

Good for Louisiana. I know a lot of people that wished my state did the same.
I'm predicting our governor back tracks on Common Core if he hasn't already.

Based on what? You want to return to the old model of education where kids can't logically reason for shite? Or read?
What exactly is your idea of a good education model? Common Core was developed by the states and governors. It was not, in any way, developed at the federal level.

Why is CC the way to go?

What about the "old model" of education do you think was causing that, such that it will be rectified by common core?
For the record, I don't know enough about this to say whether I'm for or against it, I just found these questions curious.

And with that, I officially am no longer defending Jindal. He's done some good things, but he can no longer be defended. He's lost his damn mind.
So now what? We've spent millions upon millions buying textbooks and implementing Common Core over the last year. Many teachers have already begun their lesson plans for next school year using common core.
He expects our state - which isn't exactly one of the top performing states in the country - to create standards that are going to be at least as strong as common core?
And he is doing this over the objections of the state's buiness and industry, legislature, as well as his own appointed school leaders.
And this is something HE created! What an ultimate flip-flopper. All because, well, we hate Obama.

Who knows if CC was the right move or not for Louisiana?? I don't know.
But I promise you one thing. Jindal doesn't know, nor care. This flip-flop is 100 percent based on his 2016 GOP Primary aspirations, and that's what is a shame.
Anyone who denies that has their heads in the sand, or their nose up Camp Jindal's arse.

The whole purpose of the benchmark testing in Common Core was to prevent promotion in any way without demonstration of acquired skills. The purpose to adopting across states was to measure states on a common matrix.
You want to get Louisianaians on par with kids around the country, Common Core provides the means to do that. However, as usual, people bitch about change and anything different, even if the intent of Common Core was to achieve what everyone always bitches about on here--higher standards for education.

Go read the math standards. Nothing like this is in there. Nothing.

20-25 years ago when I was in school, if you wanted full credit on some math problems, you had to show your work. If you showed your work and got it wrong, you might get partial credit.
This has been going on for decades.
