I'll be flying in to NYC in the morning and trying to figure out the best mode of transportation to the hotel. I've seen Über mentioned but have no idea what it is or how to use it. Does the subway go to LGA? Are taxis fixed rate or will I be paying a fortune sitting in traffic?

We land at 10:10am, but I don't know if NYC ever has a good traffic time.

Taxi ride will cost you around $40 depending on where you are getting to in Manhattan. No straight subway from LGA

Uber will give $20 off you 1st ride... I'd go with them

ETA: Just download the app to your smart phone

FYI - Some Airports restrict Uber, I have no idea if LGA is one of them

used to go to Yankee games every summer. Stayed by LaGuardia, hotel shuttle to airport, go on bus to harlem I think (I know the bus took us past the Apollo) then subway. It worked pretty well and cheap. I think the trip to times square took 30-45 min and cost less than $10.

Just get in the taxi line. Don't even think about taking the subway from LGA.

Newark: NJ Transit to Penn Station ($18)

LaGuardia: taxi ($40ish)

JFK: AirTrain to subway station, A train to lower Manhattan ($8)

M60 bus to Astoria Blvd to pick up Q subway train is cheapest way but you need to know what you are doing and not have too many bags to haul on bus and subway.

Hitchhike, make a sign saying you are from out of town and don't have a car and need a ride. Folks in NYC are very hospitable. Give them a chance.

You're welcome in advance.

I just did this last week, take the taxi.

It was about $35, but as soon as you walk out of LGA, there is a line of roughly 20 taxis with an airport employee directing them.

Just hang on tight when you shut the door, my wife almost lost her lunch
