The heirs of a Jewish family that owned Schocken AG, a German department-store chain seized by the Nazis, were awarded an extra 50 million euros ($68 million) in compensation by a Berlin court.
The German government, which has already paid about 15 million euros to the family for a building in Chemnitz, must put up the additional amount for the assets, the court ruled. The heirs live in Israel and the U.S., court spokesman Stephan Groscurth said in an e-mailed statement today.

Germany's turning out to be one of my favorite countries lately. Building a smart economy and some great music coming out of there now.

"It pays to be a Jew"? Wondering how many family members were murdered along with the confiscation of their property? As for stealing any land, as best I can recall, the U.N. granted the land to Isreal on a vote of the General Assembly. Seems to me like hate would get so old so fast but apparently not.

MY girlfriend's grandparents were in the concentration camps. I'm glad to see that this case passed and the family is getting rewarded. They did some facked up shite back then to the Jews.

Is it just me or but who is paying this 50 million Euros? Also the people getting this money didnt go through the war. Just like the argument today in America.

But it was a family owned business that was taken away wrongfully. I don't see how the comparison could be made in a since to people looking for reparation for slavery of there ancestors. completely different in the aspect that this business could have continued to thrive, but it was wrongfully taken away and given to someone else.

as opposed to, say, working your entire life without pay? because doesn't have the same opportunity for growth?
