Crescent City Bridge Lights Hilarity

So this article LINK contains some great info proving just how many incompetent idiots work for our city/state govt.
They start by saying they have $1.3 million in recurring enhanced maintenance and utilities. Then they break down the costs of the lighting.
"Lighting costs are about $500,000 a year for the 13-mile CCC corridor that runs from the Broad Street overpass along the West Bank Expressway to the Huey P. Long Bridge. The electricity bill for decorative lamps averages about $1,500 a month, according to engineer Scott Boyle of the transportation department. Maintenance for the decorative lights is another $90,000 a year, he said."
$1500 per month plus $90,000 would be $108,000 per year. So basically 80% of the lighting costs or roughly $400,000 per year are to light the roadway. The other $800,000 goes to grass cutting and other normal tasks handled on every other roadway without dedicated funds.
So by my math if the costs of lighting and general maintenance were handled the way they are for every other road in the state you have a $4.4 million dollar fund that would essentially be able to light the bridge indefinitely if invested properly. All other maintenance and lighting should be handled as it is on other major roadways out of DOT funds and grass mowing should be offloaded to the cities the roadway runs through.
This is a perfect example of what happens when corrupt politicians insert their family and friends into cozy jobs like a banana republic. Whenever the public finally has enough and overturns them they try to exact revenge by playing games like this.
Don't even get me started on the worthless Huey P Long bridge cops.

The whole 'cant afford to keep the bridge lighted' was a political move. Dont even try to figure it out financially.

dont cross the solid lines and they don't really care much how fast you go

I agree. I'm glad the tolls stopped!

Its a travesty that the Huey and CCC don't connect. The expressway is worthless.

Um, wouldn't that be the Causeway Police who patrol the Huey P. Long bridge??

quote:I don't know who those retards are but they certainly don't "patrol" anything. They park 3 cruisers in the median and chat all day while the A/C runs. Useful as tits on a bull.

How much would it cost to move this thread to the right board?

Hmm, I never realized that. From the Causeway Police Dept. website...
quote:
The Huey P. Long Bridge is two miles in length and crosses the Mississippi River in Jefferson Parish. Since 1987,the Causeway Police Department has provided law enforcement and motorist aid services to motorists traveling between the Eastbank and Westbank of Jefferson Parish, 5 days a week (Monday - Friday ) between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The Louisiana State Police assume enforcement responsibilities during the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Approximately 50,000 vehicles use the Huey P. Long Bridge daily.

I got 4 checks from the CCC last month. One small check to me, a $25 check to my wife. Another $25 check to previous owner and another check for the orginial owner of my house. Despite that-

$4.4 million balance, enough to cover expenses, including the bridge's decorative lights, for a little more than three years....
was prompted by a recent WVUE Fox 8 News report that funding would run out at the end of June

The political entity used to be called the GNOEC, Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission. The "patrolled" the Causeway, the Huey B. Narrow Bridge and, IIRC, the entire Pontchartrain Expressway (I-10/610 split to the GNO Bridge) and the GNO (now the CCC).
They were, for the most part, worthless cocksucker sons, son in laws or cronies of politicians or Causeway Commission members.

Superdome style LED's would fix any problem. The lights on the exterior of the Dome cost about as much as a small house's energy bill. Plus, the LED's lights last about 50 years.
But the racket that is the CCC maintenance/lighting is obviously putting some major bank in someone's (read: some people's) pockets.

I recall 2 or 3 years ago the state police was saying that a chunk of the tolls should go to them so they could provide 26 troopers to patrol the bridge.
Don't know what became of it. NO + state government is expensive because it's twice the corruption to pay for.
