when did the rule change?

It hasn't. You've always been allowed to upon release.

Refs stop caring so much about throw-in violations after you reach like 13. It has to be real bad to get called.

I saw a couple really bad ones so far. It really doesn't matter to me but its so obvious

i just coached a u-12 rec team this spring and me and the ref would look at each other with a slight grin after every single throw in. maybe 3-4 legal ones all year long

I would then stand right in front of him so he couldn't follow through. completely legal. I did this in ODP all the time and they would stop trying it. can't get the right trajectory with someone in you face when you finish that flip.

Refs don't care at this level.

This kid would legit not give a frick and smash it in your face someone tried that with him. The they got in a scuffle bad move b/c the kid is pretty high level bjj

happened twice. Both times they got yellows. if they ref knows the rules you aren't really supposed to enter the field of play with the ball contacting your hands. Its kinda of a gray area but you aren't throwing it into the box with me standing there with my big hard head.

can't get away with this anymore. the rules were changed a few years ago. defender has to be at least 2 yards away from spot where throw-in is taken.
Also, if you are merely standing there to prevent the follow through, you could easily be called for impeding the progress of an oponent (obstruction) since you are not making any attempt to play the ball.
Of course, if they throw the ball at you on purpose based on where you are standing, all bets are off. Technically should be a straight red for striking an opponent.

one got red carded when he argued over his yellow. This was 10 years ago BTW.
