Hit .338 in 20 seasons of baseball. I'd say so.

An all time great certainly, on and off the field. I've never been a Padre fan, but always a Tony Gwynn fan. May he rest in peace , and prayers to his friends and family

Gwynn was so much fun to watch hit. His instincts on pitchers, the count, his eyes on the ball, his quick swing and follow through, could put the bat right where he wanted to. Just spray the ball all around the park like Carew and Rose.

And an even better person. Sad day.

Pulled this from the Aztec forum, incredible stat.

In 20 seasons with the Padres he struck out only 434 times.....that's an average of 21.7 times per year

Tony Gwynn vs. Smoltz .462 (30-for-65) 1 K
vs. Maddux .429 (39-for-91) 0 K
vs. Glavine .312 (29-or-93) 2 K

This is absurd.

I got the chance to meet him when we was accepting a humanitarian award several years ago. Very humble, very nice guy. Watching him hit was a thing of beauty.

Awesome stat. Possibly the best contact hitter the game will ever see.
