Does this settle Duncan > Kobe for the Best Player of their Generation?

Same number of titles; superior winning and likely end of career performance arc for Duncan. More years of playing championship basketball.
It probably has to finalize Duncan as the top PF to ever play the game, if there was any inkling of a remaining doubt.

This wasn't already settled?

Duncan was the best player on his team on 4 of 5 of his championships. Kobe was the best player on his team for only 2 of 5.

Yeah pretty much. Unless Kobe can somehow win another title before he retires, I think Duncan will take that title.

With his contract, no way this happens

is Shaq in their generation? just curious...

Also, Duncan is probably the best PF ever. Kobe is a few rungs down the ladder at SG.

why does one have to be better? is it really crazy to think they both occupy the same tier?

Sure. I don't think it matters either way-- both have had better careers than Shaq.

I fully expect this thread to be a shitshow like every single other kobe related thread on this board

This counting nonsense is dumb. He happened to play on a team that doesn't miss a step when he's on the bench. They may have beaten Miami without him.

He's no Michael Jordan.

Kobe would've gotten ring #5 on the bench the way he was playing...

I'd still take Kobe. Duncan had advantages that weren't afforded to Malone, Barkley, and Garnett.

Oh, I know I'm getting trolled currently. Curiosity is eating me alive tho.

in kobe's defense, the 3 years he wasn't the best player on the team, shaq(at his peak, during the 3 year stretch) was the most dominant player in nba history.
