Lakers have under contract (pending team/player options) for 2014-15:

Kobe Bryant- $23.5mm
Steve Nash- $9.7mm
Nick Young- $1.2mm (PO)
Robert Sacre- $915,243
Kendall Marshall- $915,243 (TO)
--------------------------------------
$35,344,228

The projected salary cap is $63.2 mm, leaving them $27,855,772 to fill out the roster under the cap, as well as the 7th overall pick in the upcoming draft.

I predict the Lakers will definitely pick up Marshall's contract, leaving:

PG-Steve Nash, Kendall Marshall
SG-Kobe Bryant, Nick Young
SF-
PF-
C-Robert Sacre

Now, I presume they'll make a run at SF for:

Carmelo Anthony
Rudy Gay
Luol Deng
Trevor Ariza
Danny Granger
Evan Turner
Xavier Henry

At PF for:

Zach Randolph
Kris Humphries
Andray Blatche
Ed Davis
Jordan Hill
Patrick Patterson
Ryan Kelly

At C for:

Marcin Gortat
Spencer Hawes
Chris Kaman
Emeka Okafor

Build a roster from these players and the salaries they'll command. Some of the players on the list would be filler or backups, but they are players either on the roster as of last year or cheap alternatives.

I am not a Lakers fan; however, I would turn Bryant into your defensive SF/leader and find an athletic SG to shoulder the offense. As this may improve his longevity.

They are basically screwed right now because Nash and Bryant are so ridiculously overpaid.

They shouldn't even bother while Kobe is on contract

Try for a top 5 pick next year or trade up in the draft this year, and start over.

Whoever okayed that deal for Kobe should be fired

Swaggy P just put up 18ppg. though he's a chucker, someone will give him more than that. he's not taking a player option for 1.2 mil.

Obviously the Lakers won't contend again until Kobe is gone.

I like Kobe, he is one of my favorite players. And the Lakers are my favorite team. But Kobe really fricked them with that contract.

Kobe is still really good, top 10 player in the league when healthy. But he should be around $14-$15 mil if the Lakers are going to have enough room to build a championship roster.

I pull for both. They are in different conferences.

Been a Lakers fan since I was 6 years old.

Heat fan because I live here mostly and go to some games.

If the heat and Lakers played in a finals, I would probably have to go lake show.

First step is for Kobe to retire. Second step is for Jim Buss to retire.

No star is going to want to play with Kobe because he sucks the oxygen out of the room, and he's not good enough anymore to justify that. And Jim Buss is an idiot.

They're going to have to re-build through the draft and maybe trade for a star player that they can trap for a few years while Kobe is still there.

BTW, if they had blown up the team after they got beat by Dallas in the playoffs in 2011, they might not be in this condition. Which is what I remember Magic recommending at the time.

I love Kobe, but this would be a lot easier if he had signed for 10 mil a year

The only thing we can say with any type of confidence is them making a run for Kevin love. after that I have no idea what we do. I think it begins with Kobe Bryant retiring.
