If I am spending that kind of money on shoes those aren't going to be considered by me

Magnanni.

This. And Allen Edmonds.

I used to go "cheap" on shoes. Not anymore. The amount of money I would spend on my "throw aways" vs. investing in a great pair of shoes was just stupid on my part.

They dominate J&M on look and quality, yet are about the same price.

The OP asked for nice dress shoes not square toed guidoish dress shoes.

I have a pair of Aldo that are not square toed and are not guidoish. Very nice looking wingtips.

Not nearly on par with AE, but about 1/3 of the price. Can't speak to durability yet.

That's the problem I'm having. About to replace my third pair both black and brown in three yrs. I kept changing up brand in the 75-100 range and am fed up.

I may give j&m a try with one of their leather soles as 300/400 still puts me off for shoes.

Edmonds and Cole Haan are my go to.

I've had one pair of Ferragamo's and I hated them.
