In a push to become a more productive player by next season, New Orleans Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca is going to lean on Anthony Davis for help.
Ajinca will train in Las Vegas with Davis next month while he prepares for the USA Basketball training camp before the team participates in the FIBA World Cup in Spain, Aug. 30-Sept. 14.
...''I want to make sure I put every advantage on my side,'' Ajinca said. ''Going to Vegas to work with Anthony Davis, that's one of the things they were talking about. I'm good with that.I have to make sure I push myself to be in the best position to become a starter and improve my game.''
...''I’ve been watching tapes and I can tell sometimes I was out of shape,'' Ajinca said. ''I was also in foul trouble. I’m working on keeping my arms up. I've been working my pick-and-roll defense and hopefully I’ll get bigger and stronger.''

He showed flashes last season for sure. If he can get that midrange jumper down his offense can be an asset. His defense needs work but you can't teach 7'2".

Sounds like a great deal to me.

The big men trio should all be working out together. But they really should be working with a legit big man "coach". Hopefully they are.

I don't know if you caught this article I linked to yesterday in the Voluntary Workouts thread LINK It's a profile of assistant coach Kevin Hanson. He's a 6'10 former Euro center who Monty hired because he knew how much he had helped Tim Duncan in San Antonio.

Nice. I missed that.
I see Hanson out and about all the time, I didnt not realize he was heralded as a big man specialist.

Nice article ATL. AD definitely improved leaps and bounds this past year. If he can keep up this pace the sky is the limit for NO. Nevertheless, every Batman needs a Robin. I'm really interested to see Ajinca and Withey's improvement after a full offseason in the system. If we are indeed following the "Spurs Model" player development is key. Creating a culture of developing player IQ's and establishing player accountability should be the Pelicans model. Unless we can win the Lebron Decision II lottery.

Excited to see this happening...Alexis has all the tools to be very effective for us
With him going against AD everyday he'll be competing against an All-Star day in and day out
As for AD he'll be competing against a stronger, taller guy every day
Both can benefit and I think it's gonna bode well for both

If Ajinca can bulk up a lil, I really like him in some capacity yon our team.
I thought he played well down the stretch with nothing to play for but a roster spot.

Dude has a serious wing span. Has upside IMO

He honestly impressed me last year. I had extremely low expectations for him. He has a decent mid range shot. His biggest flaw is that he constantly fouls. If can cut down the fouls and improve his stamina I could see him establishing a role with the team.

Ajinca won't play in the next World Cup (30 août – 14 septembre), he's staying with his wife who is expecting their child at that time.

He played really well in spurts and stepped up when he had to. He's not a starter, but if he comes off the bench and does what he did last year, I'll be really happy with the team of Asik/Ajinca.

What a pleasant thing to hear: "I want to improve"... and actually doing something to make that happen.
