Not sure if this has been posted but the search feature only searches the last 14 days. Anyway this video was pretty well done and really got me excited for our defense this season.
Man we are close. This could be a really special couple of years.

Byrd is just such a get for you guys. I'll admit, I was completely wrong when it came to predicting yall's defense last year. Here's hoping for another top 5 defense season!

The fact that he left PRob out is pretty gay. Dont get me wrong, I'm not PRobs biggest fan, but he is still part of this secondary and will probably see ample playing time this year.

"highlight" plays from
Sunseri and Ball who may not even be on the team or have any playing time (SJB will be imo), but leave off PRob who's slotted as our #2/3 corner.
Yeah...I'm gonna leave it at that.

I'll admit, you weren't the only one.
Can't wait to see what Byrd will do. Also looking forward to seeing what Robinson will do. I'm not expecting anything big time but he's had times where he's shown something.
should be interesting to see what he and the other corners can do with Byrd/Vaccaro/Bush back there. And if the pass rush stays about the same or improves... holy fricking shite.
watch out.

If Butler can be even half as good as we think he can be, our pass rush is gonna dominate. And our secondary is gonna be unstoppable...

I thought before the season that we'd be in the mid 20's. I said if we ranked in the top 15 I'd be stoked.

I said top 10 before last year, I'm gonna say top 2 this year.

I don't think anyone not employed by the Saints felt that our defense was going to be that good last year. Most of us were saying that we'd be ecstatic with a low 20s to teens ranking.
If Seattle hadn't caught lightning in a bottle, there is no doubt that this team could have gone all the way.

Yeah, no kidding. The guy has 7 career INTs, 1 sack, 1 TD. He needs to be in there.

I had us being around middle of the pack, and felt like I was being overly optimistic.
My expectations are certainly higher for this years defense. Maybe they give up more yards possibly, and that can be because of the offense firing on all cylinders again. That would mean teams are passing a lot late, while the defense plays soft with big leads. But, I feel like there will be more forced turnovers this season. Maybe the offense will look to control the clock and be balanced, not sure. Either way, this defense on paper appears to be ridiculous.

We might triple our turnovers this season.
Edit: No, probably not.
But you can imagine what it'd be like if we did, right?

The Saints were +11 in turnover differential during the 2009 season. I see it being relatively close to that this year.
For comparison:
2006: -2
2007: -7
2008: -4
2009: +11
2010: -6
2011: -3
2012: +2
2013: 0
2013 was the most dominant defense under Payton, but lacked turnovers. Bringing in someone like Byrd will help that immensely. Surprised to see the the Saints were +2 in 2012, but they let offenses march up and down the field. This defense is set up to be a combination of 2013 and 2009; great tackling, eliminating 3rd conversions and forcing turnovers.
There were 19 takeaways last season, 39 in 2009 (exactly what Seattle had last season). Sharper accounted for 9 interceptions in 09. I think it's realistic to expect Byrd to have a big impact in that center fielder type of role. I'd say Byrd can add around 5+ to the total himself. He will also help out guys like Lewis who had 4 interceptions last season, and Vacarro (1). Bailey has averaged over 3 interceptions per year for his career, and hopefully still has a bit left. Robinson, with significant playing time had 4 interceptions in 11 and 3 in 20102. I think he can account for 2-4 this year if he sees the field a lot. I'm not sure if they will be able to reach 39 takeaways, but I think around 30 seems reasonable. It should also be noted that the 09 team did not have a defensive like near as good as this one.

Byrd averages ~2FF and ~4INTs a year. Assume 1 FF is recovered, that's 5 TOs by himself.
malcolm jenkins averages ~1FF and ~1INT a year.
