Parity in College Baseball - LSU is not Immune

Just to put a few things into perspective -- some simple facts from the 2014 Baseball Tournament:
Of the 16 top-seeded schools that entered regionals last weekend, only SEVEN advanced to the Super Regional Round.
4 #2 seeds and 4 #3 seeds advanced, along with a #4 seed.
Of the 8 nationally-seeded schools who were set to host a super regional if they won the regional they were hosting, only THREE advanced to the Super Regional Round.
All four national seeds on the 1/4/5/8 side of the bracket failed to advance, along with #2 Florida.
Long gone are the days where the only truly competitive schools in these regionals are the #1's and #2's.

the excuses for paul's mismanagement of the clinching game just keep rolling in

it was indeed a crazy first round of the tourney but none of those other stats really apply to what happened to LSU sunday and yesterday. Those other teams got outplayed badly for the most part, we were well in control until PM decided to put McCune in and keep him in for way too long. Then last night night we could have been competitive if we had thrown our best relievers first instead of throwing the worst relief pitcher in a jam

Yeah, I think parity has every right to apply when you don't lose in the fashion we did Sunday night.
I honestly have no idea as far as suggestions. You sure as hell don't fire the guy who is 103-27 the past two seasons, nor do you fire BBQ javi with the way we hit this year and the incoming class.
Somehow we have to make sure Paul quits overthinking shite going forward

And why would this make anyone feel better?
Come on man

quote:yea I'm not saying paul should be fired. I just think the paul tards need to realize Paul isn't the greatest coach in the game. I think the only national seed that is really comparable to us is IU. they were up 2-0 in their regional but even then they didn't just roll over and die like we decided to do in the 3rd.

And this is supposed to make me feel better???
Thanks for the effort you put into the post, but I am thinking you are just trying to convince yourself that the Tigers didnt implode after Sunday nite's game!!!

they lost on great plays by stanford. We lost because Paul stuck with a struggling pitcher too long and then decided to put in a untested/ worst pitcher we have left in a tight situation last night instead of putting in our best arm that we could use. Paul's decision making went to shite

This is just a freak year as far as the amount of top seeds getting bounced. But anyone who claims there's so much parity now as compared to the 90's just hasn't done their homework. You can make yourself feel better and say "ah, no one is consistently getting to supers and omaha anymore" but that's A. bullshite, and B. A pretty Beta attitude.
I did a post on this a few years back, but before I go dig up the old stats, just look at South Carolina's run (aside from this freak year of course).

Very disturbing, especially after Cartwright guaranteed a win and Bregman was channeling his inner Tim Tebow in the game 6 post game NCAA interviews. Granted Bregman showed up, but if he's the leader of the team it certainly didn't look like very many followed.
It's disheartening to think about, but it looks like the 'rope' has fallen into a deep well.

Found my old posts. These are from 2 years ago. Will have to update them:
LSU baseball post Skip :
'02 : Smoke Laval era begins. Host a regional, get shutout at the Rice Super Regional.
'03 : Host a regional, host a super regional, make it to Omaha
'04 : Host a regional, host a super regional, make it to Omaha
'05 : Host a regional, lose it to Rice.
'06 : We did not qualify for a regional (however we made the SEC tournament). This is an outrage to LSU baseball. Laval canned.
'07 : The Paul Maineiri era begins. We do not qualify for postseason play at all.
'08 : "The streak". After starting out 23-16-1 and looking like postseason was going to be out of reach the tigers woke up and rattled off 16 wins in their final regular season games. They carried that on to win their next 7 in the SEC tournament and Regional. Hosted a regional, Hosted a Super, made it to Omaha.
'09 : One of the best teams in LSU history. Hosted a regional, hosted a super, won the national championship
'10 : This team started off 32-6and people were talking about a repeat national title. But as something that has become a theme with Maineiri's teams, they seemingly went to sleep. The team went 4-14 to finish the regular season and now a regional birth was uncertain. Still, they won their 3rd SEC championship in a row and traveled to UCLA for a regional.
'11 : Start out 16-1 and sweep a top 10 ranked Cal St. Fullerton. Then we go 8-16 losing 5/6 SEC series and midweek games to Northwestern St and ULL. Paul Maineiri comes out and promises that the team will play harder than they ever have and that they were going to put something special together. They did, going 12-3 to finish. But it was too little too late. LSU misses the postseason altogether.
So in 5 years under Laval we never missed the SEC tournament and we hosted a regional every year except the last. That was unheard of so he got fired. In 5 years under Maineiri we have only hosted 2 regionals. We did win a national title which no doubt buys him time. We have missed the postseason outright (meaning not even a spot in our conference tournament) twice! To think that just 6 years ago we were so used to HOSTING regionals that when we didn't qualify for one we fired our coach, and now we're hoping to just make our conference tournament is outrageous!

and...
If things have changed so much and made it so difficult for teams to be consistently good over the last 4 years, how did North Carolina make it to Omaha 3 out of those 4 years? UNC has made it to Omaha 5 out of the last 6 years in fact. South Carolina is back to back champions. Oregon State won back to back in '06 and '07.
Also in that 4 years, Florida State has hosted both a regional and super regional every single year. Cal St Fullerton and Ariz St have also hosted 4 straight regionals. Texas is 3/4 in hosting regional and Supers, so are UNC and Florida. Ariz St is 3/4 in hosting supers (actually 4/5)
Going further, in the last 6 years UNC, FSU, Ariz St, Rice, and Cal St Fullerton have hosted 5 regionals each.
