Okay, I get that. But, you certainly discount the flagship university of Louisiana and make it out to be a Delgado type of education.
LSU is a much better school now than when I graduated from high school. It is a legit option for all residents of the state now.

Yeah but are they engineers or hippie life-long waiters/waitresses?
That's my question. Is it a lot of Grads with English or Philosophy degrees bartending, or underemployed grads who just want to party for a while before settling into a career, or will the city support careers and build a strong middle class beyond doctors and lawyers?

I'm on my phone so I car but search where graduates from Ben Franklin and Lusher are going to college. I know Lusher produces a list, not sure if Franklin does.

I hate to speak poorly of the state's largest and most recognized city. I truly do love that things are looking positive here lately. I wonder if mitch is doing well or if the place is getting better inspite of him.
All that said my kids will be grown before I think new Orleans will be worth raising a family in. Baton Rouge is rough but a person can still buy a home in a middle class area and still have a reasonable buffer from the high crime garbage.

Black people are still killing each other in record numbers so....
New Orleans 2004 = New Orleans 2014
New Orleans 2004 = New Orleans 2014

You know, this is a really great premise for a thread, but you brought it here.
N.O. is in the best shape since well before I was born in '77, and from what I read, all you got was smartass comments from expatriates who live in some slapdick Texas town.
It really is a nice study in rebirth.

Not even close. Late 80's early 90's had over 400-500 murders. I have no idea where y'all get this shite.

What are the most immediate and noticeable differences, in your eyes, between pre-Katrina New Orleans and present-day New Orleans? Which version do you prefer? I know this was discussed ad nauseam in the years following the storm, but New Orleans has even morphed into quite a different city than its 2009 self.

Definitely agree. LSU has made a lot of progress in the last 10-15 years. Even during the 4 years I was there it was amazing to see all the new buildings and developments/plans coming into play.

I went to a residential part of NO a month or so ago and for the first time ever I thought that it might be a cool place to live.
