I was ready to move out of New Orleans summer of 2005, now there is no where I'd rather be.
Except on an island in the Caribbean....

Neither answer is right or wrong and it's a very subjective question. There were some glaring issues in 2004 that really and truly haven't been rectified. The 2014 version of the city is optimistic, but it's ambiguity is overpowering the identity of what the city wants to become. It's still corrupt and crime ridden compared to other US metros with similar population.
As far as the young professionals go, no, they're not flocking to NOLA. Sure, hipsters are gentrifying bayou St. John and the Bywater, but there is still much work to be done from an aesthetic standpoint, as well as economically.

not so sure about that. Most of my group from LSU ended up in TX
I'm kind of skeptical about the young professional stat too. Texas is still such a strong pull seems.

No shite. 2 out of 83 in my graduating class went to LSU.

That's unfortunate.

Several hoods have been changed in a positive way. Tons of good press. Google if you want to see all of the great stories.

I'll share my knowledge. LSU undergrad, Tulane Law.
I don't really have any LSU buddies here but most of my friends were out of staters anyways and are in Houston.
However, many of the out of state tulane kids stayed here, and of those that didn't, they visit a lot and/or are actively seeking/contemplating taking the bar here and returning.
Eta: I think it says a lot when kids from all over the country thought long and hard about staying here even when they had jobs lined up in their home states

Well, you're wrong. Statistically, it is an absolute fact.

Not really considering they went to actually get an education

Why?
10 to Vandy
4 to Yale
4 to Harvard
3 to Amherst
3 to Princeton
3 to Williams
2 to Rice
3 to Stanford
LSU in 1983 wasn't on the radar for most graduates.
ETA:
Morehouse scholar to UNC
Jefferson scholar to UVA
4 more to UVA

Right, I must've forgotten LSU is an overgrown high school. Sorry, you missed out. Nothing like that minimum wage humor.

Yeah but are they engineers or hippie life-long waiters/waitresses?

Because it's a good school that's 70 miles away with beautiful coeds and a nice campus. What am I missing here, pal?

I've been all over both the world and US and 2014 is one of the coolest f'ing places out there. People who live in NOLA and South LA who has not traveled don't realize how well they have it down here.

A better education elsewhere?

Yea, I was discussing this with my friend who graduated from St. Martin in 2002. He said the same thing about his classmates. I think 2 inclduding himself went to LSU and 20 others went to Bama and Ole Miss.
