And there's your reasoning. Money
I just know that at some point there was a city counsel meeting and some PTA mom stood up and gave her reasoning why it had to be that low - and I'll bet she talked about how a kid could be chasing a ball into the road or something equally eye-roll worthy.
Victim of a 44 in a 30, myself.

Should be lower IMO. That curve is horrendous.
Does anyone know the reason for such a dangerous and poor design? I don't visit Baton Rouge often, but every time I do I'm just amazed such a road would be constructed in modern times.

South Harrells Ferry Rd was 35 not too long ago. That was absurd. My wife got a ticket there for going 40mph the week before they changed the speed limit. That wreckless shedevil...

I find myself going 50 there all the time without thinking about it. Gonna be bad. Wish it was higher.
I looked down and was doing 60 right after it opened. And then a day or two later is when I saw a cop pulling someone over. I'm not sure where they run radar, but I think it's at that little church/school place almost down on the Highland side of Staring, with that cross in the front lttle grassy area of the parking lot (I've seen them run radar there YEARS ago). I've had to resort to either using cruise control or making sure I have a good buffer of speeders in front of me.

quote:Oh, I remember the whole ordeal quite well. It was actually the residents that raised a fuss whenever the connection to Nicholson became a reality. They didn't want all of the through traffic racing through their subdivision.
You can thank our wonderful politicians for putting pressure on the road and traffic engineers for that (and all similar traffic issues). The developers go to them and then they squeeeeeeel like a pig til they get what they want.
That's the narrative of BR for you -- terrible planning (city officials) and an unfounded sense of entitlement (residents).

I went down a road the other day that had a sign that read... "Deaf Child at Play"
How am I supposed to know the "child" isn't 19 today? How did that sign get put up? Was there a time limit? Is the child also blind?

But I thought only people in Central and Watson were NIMBYs?? BR residents are against progress too? You don't say?

A friend of mine had that sign in his neighborhood growing up (not for him) - 20 years later it's still there.

quote:I used to work with an old guy that was with DOTD (it was still LDH at that time) when it was designed. There was always a rumor that they aligned it that way so that southbound traffic would have a head-on view of the state capital when heading through the curve. He said that wasn't true, and that alignment was the only way that they could connect the two portions of the freeway, due to existing adjacent properties and the railroad track. I don't know how true that is, but I doubt he would have lied.

The problem with that is that there are huge wood fences on either side enclosing the neighborhoods and separating them from the four lane stretch.
Even still, I think it only goes up to 40 mph when you pass the subdivisions and go through the field. I suppose you may hit a jack rabbit nibbling on the crops?

25 mph through Port Vincent

I was always told it was due to the railroad track.

It makes sense once you are at the turn. However the length of the 25mph zone is insane.

The new road connecting central and oneal lane is fifty through the countryside. He'll airline is fifty by the old womans hospital. It makes no sense.

Ive been told that the speed limit on bluebonnet is like that because of the few houses in the front of the neighborhood that the driveway goes directly onto bluebonnet.
I used to live there and hated that speed limit.

quote:That is it, but the argument still doesn't hold water. There are multiple streets in BR with residential drives that have 35mph speed limits. Sherwood Forest is one, S. Eugene is another. I'm sure there are others, but those are 2 that come to mind.
