Catcher interference on the throw

That would be batter intererence, and the "throw" had nothing to do with it. After the swing the batter fell over home plate, thus creating the batter's interference.

batter interference, runner going to second and the batter was standing on home plate, staring at the stands.

So he was called out for batters interference, not for slinging the bat into the stands?

Yes, had a runner not been attempting to steal on the play, there would have been no call.

yes. slinging the bat had nothing to do with it.

Gotcha. I didn't think you could be called out for the bat slipping out of your hands but they didn't really clarify that on tv.

On TV they showed a replay explaining why it was batters interference....

It does not surprise me at all that Jim was confused on what happened.

Right. But They made it sound like it was batters interference so the runner had to go back to first, didn't realize that the batter was automatically called out when that happened.

i dont believe the part about bill not knowing.

On batter's interference the batter is out, and the runner must return to the base previously occupied before the pitch.

I'll bet the call he made was exciting though, right?

Bill didn't know. At least not at first. Because I think the runner only broke and went back so they didn't see a runner at second.
