Columbus, OH becoming a Major League City?

The latest US Census showed Columbus added 33,000 residents last year, growing to 822,553 residents (15th largest city in US) and continued a trend of significant growth in the city, as well in the suburbs (2.3 million MSA) . Columbus is the only Midwestern city to show significant gains in both city and suburban population. Add in the fact that Columbus is only in the beginning of a downtown population boom that could add an additional 20-30k residents. The Columbus Metro also continues to add residents at a significant rate, expecting to add 500,000 residents by 2030. My question is will we ever see Columbus become a Major League city? I know Columbus has the Blue Jackets, Crew and Machine, but could Columbus be a NBA city? The Mayor of Columbus has stated many times they want a NBA team. Meanwhile, every other major city in Ohio is shrinking to the point where one has to ask if they are able to support 2 or 3 Major League franchises (especially Cleveland). I think the NBA in Columbus would be perfect.

NBA needs some retraction, not expansion

Columbus has been on the rise for the past couple of years despite what this board will tell you. I personally don't want another professional sports team here though.

You already have pro sports. Austin is bigger than C-Bus and still doesn't have one.

Columbus is 27/30 in NHL attendance and 14/19 in MLS attendance.
Got to show up to support the pro franchises you already have.

They need to move the Cavs there.

Assuming they get rid the Reds and Indians, sure.
The state, which is dying, is consolidating in Columbus. I can't imagine they'll be bringing more franchises to Ohio.

Y'all just want someone else to cheer for besides the lousy Cavaliers.

This tread was a good laugh.

Columbus is definitely growing. But NE Ohio has somewhere in the vicinity of 4 million people and is physically smaller than Greater Houston, Greater Dallas-Fort worth, Greater Phoenix and other new-age metros. That's the biggest market and most densely populated portion of Ohio.

Charlotte needs a baseball team

This Wiki page lists the top MSAs though 381 and is more sortable than the census site, so assuming it's correct, Columbus-Marion-Zanesville is No. 32 with 1.97M, up 3.4 % from 2010, so yeah, it is growing.
Cinci is 28 (+1.08% from 2010) and Cleveland 29 (-.6). Cleveland is 1/3 MSA with decreasing population in the top 50 since 2010, along Detroit No.14 (-.03) and Buffalo No. 50 (-.12).
Largest with no big 4 team:
9. Riverside-Sand Bernardino
Largest with no teams in area at all:
31. Las Vegas
35. Austin-Round Rock
37. Virginia Beach
38. Providence
43. Louisville
44. Richmond
46. Hartford
49. Birmingham-Hoover
LINK
Anyway, you're not going to have 3 teams in any League within 250 miles of each other or 2 within 140 miles outside the eastern seaboard, California, or Chicago with massive populations.
