Sometimes you can enjoy each other in silence.... Just because you witness this at a single point in the night at a restaurant doesn't mean the couple doesn't communicate or unhappy..... How retard are you? Grow up.

Sometimes it is not sad at all. Some of the best meals I have eaten with my wife, we haven't spoken a word. When you just had a really bad day, just enjoying the food/each others company is all you need.

From what I have heard, when you have kids, nights out with each other like this are glorious.

Have a few kids and tell me how depressing silence it, I'd love to eat a meal in silence

Perhaps but not always. If you stay in a relationship long enough you can be perfectly happy talking over dinner but you can also be perfectly happy just being together without having to talk non-stop. For example my wife and I have been together for 17 years. We will sit and talk for hours sometimes while others we can sit quietly while saying little. The one thing that does not change though is we enjoy just being together. No need to talk for for talking's sake. Just be there together wherever "there" is.

My SO wants me to move to Portland where I would be leaving my friends. The disadvantage should scare me but it doesn't, maybe if she had a big cackle of girls it would.

I see this too in others and it sucks. We are very comfortable with silence, it isn't weird. But it is strange how sometimes we will have nothing to say at a table and later that day we lose track of time on the phone.

Sounds like fricking heaven to me. When I can sit in silence with a person, I know we will be great friends.
