Any ideas as to why my deck is covered in fungus?

I have a lot of trees overhead and I am wondering if that's what's causing it. I just notice a lot of green on my wooden surfaces under the trees. It's my deck, and fence too. I've even noticed it on some of my bricks on my house. I've had it power washed somewhat recently, but it keeps coming back.

Bleach first, then pressure wash

don't just pressure wash it. Use a deck cleaner that has bleach in it. Spray it on. Use a stiff broom to scrub it. Rinse. Then stain it.

Is your deck on the north side? The north side of my house has to be pressure washed twice a year.

Be careful with pressure washing. It can mess up the wood

Deck is on South Side. So it sounds like that Fungus is coming back with or without the trees. Does anybody think cutting them down would help?

It's humid down here... try bleaching the deck. Water sealant too.

Probably not unless they are creating a very thick cover and preventing airflow...

Trim back the trees and let more sunlight in. Mold loves that shade, but the shade keeps the yard cooler.

Sounds like your deck isn't sealed, so water absorbs into the wood and stays there.

bleach solution will help retard future algae growth
a good deck stain/sealer should also contain anti-fungus chemicals.
cant help you with the brick..just pressure wash it when it happens

Your genital fungus is spreading?

Yeah this one tree is right over the deck and it is pretty thick. And I did a thompsons water seal/stain when I first installed it about 4 years ago or so. I'm guessing that needs to be re-applied and is part of the problem along with the thick cover of the water oak right above it.
