Job Interview Process

How long should you wait before emailing asking the status of the job? I have interviewed three times and taken an online assessment. My final interview was Tuesday and they stated "I would know something soon"

Have you sent a "thank you"?

yes I have interviewed with three different people and have sent a thank you to each one individually

Okay. Good. Just thought it might be an opportunity to express how anxious/excited you are to hear good news. Basically a subtle way to put it out there that you're waiting. If the last interview was Tuesday, I'd give at least a week. You may not have been the last interview and there could be a whole HR process that will take more than a few business days.

Wait a week and then send the recruiter a message... "Hey thanks for setting up the interviews blah blah blah, looking forward to hearing more about the process blah blah blah"
Keep it short and sweet

Generally... what type of job / industry is this in? Perhaps, going by your username, a teacher?
You interviewed at three seperate times?
At least in my profession, third interviews are very rare (unless the first one was a BS one with a recruiter).
I would say give it the weekend, on Monday, maybe a brief e-mail just once again thanking them for the opportunity to meet about the posistion.
Employers take their sweet time sometimes. Plus, in this day and age, it's not uncommon for an applicant who was not selected to not ever hear anything back.

I'm kind of in the same situation. Applied and finally got a call for the aptitude test three weeks later. Was told if I didn't pass, HR would call me in a couple of days. (I'm sure I passed. No problem there.) Their website also says if I did pass, the hiring manager would call "within 5 days or ASAP" to arrange an interview. That was 3 weeks ago. The position is no longer posted online but I know they haven't filled it yet.
I want to believe they have massive amounts of applicants to deal with and they're just slow as molasses.

Yes I am still waiting also. Hiring manager has asked for my reference and I know has contacted them all. Just a waiting game......

Took me 2 weeks from interview to offer.

I'd just be happy to get to the interview stage. If I'm not the best for the job, so be it.

I agree. The worst part is the wondering. A 'nope' was almost better because it let me move on.
I was laid off from my first real job after 13 months. Then unemployed for 6 months. Then got a contract job which carried me 2 years until I finally got another direct hire last week. I start at the end of May. The whole 2 years I've been worried about my future. I can FINALLY look forward at ease now.

I'm being let go, along with hundreds of others from the same line of business, in about 4 more months. This has been a 20 year job for me which also means I haven't done the whole job search deal in 20 years. I'm out of practice.

For what it's worth, when I was looking for a job upgrade a few months ago, I bought the Manager Tools Interview Series podcasts online for $75 or so.
It was a big help with all of the nuances of the resume, job search, interview, and follow up processes. I didn't do all of their stuff exactly but it was helpful to get in the right frame of mind and not have to stress about the details. I highly recommend it.
Anyway, that sounds like a big commercial but the $75 paid off big time, and this is coming from an experienced professional who has spent time on the other side of the interview and resume screening process.
