It closed back in the early '90s, but it was called "Animal House."

Ohh yeah I knew the place...went in there all the time as a kid...had a pretty sweet albino bull frog if I remember correctly. Always had some nice stuff.

Vinnies was Marc exotic aquatic. Thats where I worked back in the mid early to mid 90s (high school). Then go pound 1$ long necks and watch the lingerie show at vinnies

I think it may have been on Gen. DeGaulle, or right around that area. It was in a strip mall. On my senior cruise, I caught an Amevia lizard in Puerto Rico and smuggled it back on the ship and on the plane ride home. Traded it to my uncle for a pair of Tokay Geckos. He always had some cool stuff in his shop - he was a real reptile lover.

Yea I think it was around the chucky cheese on gen degal. Those tokays are some cool mofos...they had them running around in Marcs...you would hear them calling randomly...and then some blood smeared up the wall becasue they would sometimes eat the loose mice. I had so much fin working at that place

" the old snake farm on Hwy. 90 in Slidell"

That place was called Reptile Jungle. It was next to the White Kitchen.

When I was a kid I had two northern pacific rattlesnakes. I also had a copperhead and and number of rat snakes, king snakes and water snakes. Me and two other guys belonged the Philadelphia Herpetological Society. We had pen pal snake collectors all over the US and traded snakes.

I don't keep any as pets any more but a friend of mine has about 40 king snakes in his living room. They are mostly California kings and Florida Apalachicola kings. That reminds me. Does anyone have a female Louisiana milk they want to sell.

Yep, that was the one, by the White Kitchen. Whenever we'd go to the snake farm, afterwards we'd cross the street to the rest area and catch little red salamanders along the edge of the swamp. Caught a couple dozen once. The snake farm had a reticulated python in the 26 ft. range back in the late '70s. Gus used to trailer it around and display it in mall parking lots as "the world's largest snake." Still have pictures of it.

The man that ran the Reptile Jungle used to have a show on TV. I think it was called "Wild Cargo". They would show film of snakes and exotic animals they caught. It was on Sat night in the 60's. I may have gone too far back in history for most of you.

My dad traded a 6 ft. Canebrake rattler for our first pet gator - it was in the front display case for years at the old snake farm on Hwy. 90 in Slidell back in the day

Growing up in Athens, Alabama there was a fantastic pet store named BJ's Pets that was right down the street from where we would get our hair cut. It had saltwater and freshwater fish, reptiles, puppies & kittens, etc, in a beautiful old downtown building.

Its claim to fame was that they had a crocodile (or possibly it was an alligator) in a big tank in the front window--I never once saw it move but it was alive because over the years it got bigger and bigger. I wonder what happened to it when they closed.

The way to tell a venomous snake in the U.S. is just like I used to tell my "Yanquis" friends that would visit:
If it has cats eyes with a slender pupil, kill it or get the heck out of there!
If it has round black eyes then it is ok and leave it alone.
Exception is the Coral Snake, but they are so rare and non-aggressive. Look for the Black head if it might be a Coral though, then kill it. Don't want to kill a King Snake by accident
