I'm sure your neighbors are thrilled looking at that ugly arse shite all over your roof all day long. Not to mention the hit on their property values.

We have a 4,100 sq foot house. Our summer electric bill is a killer because I keep the temperature at 70 indoors.

We are going to look at getting solar panels. Sounds like a smart investment. Glad I saw this thread.

That was probably with an electromechanical meter and not a net meter. The math just doesn't add up, but I'm just using averages. hey great for you if you do save $100 or more though.

The average is about 12 years.

That was the average years ago. Down to less than 7.

I'd considered them.

Roof systems are expensive though.

Tread carefully.

Yeah my taxes go to s lot of things that I don't agree with, but I think, actually I know, I am entitled to have an opinion when someone is benefiting from my labor. My opinion of solar panels is its just a pyramid scheme. If someone wants them then they should pay for them why me. Think about it, three guys sitting in a room. One guy says I want solar panels but they cost $30,000 and at that price I'll never get my money back. He tells the other two guys they have to pay 80 % for him and they get nothing in return. I'm one of those two guys. It sucks. The green stupidity has to stop somewhere.

Did they have to get up in your attic and fortify your roof rafters to support the extra weight?

So you and the other guy have paid enough into taxes that yall are paying for someone's solar panels, but the person getting them didn't pay taxes. I guess since they get a tax credit, it was your taxes and not his. Glad to know you foot the bill for so many.

Current battery life tech is up to 15 years.

How many amp hours for how much? It is waaaaaaaay cheaper to just buy an E-gen than enough battery power for more than a few hours.

The ones my neighbor has are actually lighter than I would have expected.

Did you hold them or what?

My grandma and granddaddy got theirs a long time ago so they're just in the side yard. Not on the house

yes, I went over there to check them out when he was installing them and picked them up. Each panel was only like 28"x60" maybe 25lbs.

***he did do a little roofing repair after installation so maybe he did do some extra bracing in the attic as well.

They aren't heavy individually, but added up, they are a good bit. Extra bracing is usually required.
The installation of panels generally voids the shingle warranty, due to heat and multiple penetrations.
My other concern was air/wind getting under the panels and possibly lifting the roof decking.
Lastly, with multiple penetrations, especially with a foamed attic, I was worried about leaks.

Not against them, but there are trade offs.
