Small plane accident. Really wasn't traumatic immediately, but I had some difficulty dealing with it later. It's nothing compared to losing a child, can't imagine what folks who lose a child go through

Same here. It would definitely put me over the edge.

The worst was finding out that my uncle shot and killed my grandmother. Had to hole up somewhere with my parents and siblings that night because we didn't know where my uncle was and what his subsequent plans were. Got another call in the middle of the night to find out he shot and killed himself somewhere. The worst part was watching my dad deal with it. His father left when he was a toddler, so his mom and brother were his only family, and both were gone in the worst way.
ETA: My uncle was being treated for depression, and he was on a medication that later became very controversial for multiple strange occurrences such as this one.

The Mardi Gras right after Katrina, my brother in law was murdered while he and my sister were walking home on Magazine Street. The case was never solved and so it still lingers. To this day, I don't know how my sister manages to cope with it.

This thread is pretty fricked up.
Poster who was paralyzed, poster who's uncle killed his mother and himself, anyone who lost a child...
I can't imagine any of this. Some strong mother frickers around here. Prayers to all.

I can't imagine they could deal with some of the stuff you have probably been thru. Its all relative and it all sucks badly!

“The Cambridge Introduction to William Faulkner” quotes him as saying, “I believe that man will not only endure: he will prevail."
I draw strength from this quote...
My MDs told me I would never walk normally. I have run 10 miles several times in my life and run 5 regularly.
Oh it took going through hell to get there but the human spirit is a damn determined force of nature when unleashed!

My dad dying the day after we reconciled after thirty years of anger toward each other.
Being left for dead and having to crawl almost two miles to get help.

Was in the hospital room with brother when he died.
Ex took children off of the playground at their school and hid out for a month without me knowing their whereabouts.

I've lost family members to natural death and some to cancer before their time, but the worst thing I've ever experienced is a really close female friend of mine who along with her husband lost their 6 week old son to an infection. The funeral with that tiny coffin and the priest telling them as young parents that when they go to heaven when they die they will get to see him as a grown man is still the saddest thing I've witnessed. Frick.

Well when I was in high school 8 years ago a friend and I decided to get high and pick up some girls we knew that went to school with us around 3 in the morning. Well we did, and on the way to his parents rental property that wasn't being used at the time he decided to start speeding for no apparent reason. I tried to tell him to slow down but he didn't listen until it was too late. We ran a stop sign, but instead if going straight he decided to turn. We jumped a ditch on some Dukes of Hazard shite, knocked down a power box and traveled 60ft into the woods only to meet an oak tree. Luckily for us we walked away with minor damages and no we did not get laid that night.
ETA: We joked about it for a few days laughing like we had caller Id when death called. Well he died 3 yrs later, some punk arse bitches broke into his house to rob him he gave them everything and they still shot him.

After working for the same company for 8 years, starting literally sweeping and cleaning up shite and then moving into the front office as a salesman, I was unceremoniously laid off. Found out a few weeks later that my wife was unexpectedly pregnant with our second child. Our first was 7 months old at the time. Wife is a teacher at a private school making what mcdonald's employees make.
I thought I was going to lose it.

Reading this during finals week definitely puts things in perspective.

That did suck!
I had three kids at the time and went through a transition like that. I had to go on Medicaid for 1 year. Totally humbling experience.

Watching my wife deliver our stillborn son. I can't imagine anything more traumatic then that happening to me. I now have a beautiful daughter. But to see her deliver a still born son, who was less then a pound and about 5 inches. She held him for a few minutes. i couldn't bring myself to hold him and I regret it everyday.
