The Republican Party is at its strongest point in two decades heading into midterm elections, according to a new Pew Research-USA Today poll, the latest daunting sign for Democrats ahead of campaign season.

The GOP is at an even stronger point than in previous "wave" elections in 1994 and 2010 and looks poised to make major gains — and possibly take control of the U.S. Senate.

According to the poll, out Monday, Republicans have a 47-43 lead on the generic congressional ballot. That's a 10-point swing from October, when Democrats, boosted by GOP blame for the federal government shutdown, held a 6-point lead in the Pew poll.

The GOP will find a way to frick this up.

They're already doing it in the Nebraska Senate race.

Republicans need to be very careful if they get the senate. They can't go in too heavy handed.

Other factors come into play in local elections, but I'd rather have that tailwind than it be a headwind.

I agree.

They just need to shut Obama's arse down in every instance where his little commie tendencies try to show themselves. Same with any nominations.

Pass unobjectionable stuff. Confirm actually qualified and non-ideological nominees (and vet the shite out of them).

Top items (to help sell the GOP candidate):

a) "fix" Obamacare (and when I say fix, I mean gut the damned thing and start over with some rational policies);
b) reform the tax code (make a play for a flat or fair tax, but at least do something about the Code);
c) rein in the regulatory state (especially EPA).

He'll likely block all of this, but by doing so, the GOP will be able to say...this will help, put a guy/woman in the WH we can work with.

Why does this only apply to Republicans. Democrats always "go heavy handed" and get away with it.

Does Rex have a job?
Other than the obvious message board troll job.

I seriously doubt that they'll do much of anything *controversial*, Scruff.

We can only hope. I have little confidence that the Pubs can get it together though. And then there's that consistent delusional 47% who will vote for Democrats regardless.

First thing they should do -- since the Dims decided to change the longstanding Senate rules to ram through Odummy's socialist judicial nominees, they should change the rule back. Only since the Dims lessened the total number from 60 to 50, the Republicans should go the opposite way and increase it by 10 to 70 to invoke cloture.

What could the Dims possibly say?

It's unfair?

It's a longstanding rule that only the Dims have unethically changed in the past so the Republicans can't follow the Dims lead?

Would love for them to do this, but you know they won't.

And not increase it, just go back to what it was. Democrats never should've changed it in the 1st place.

Why do you want the GOP to be like the DNC?
