If you weren't able to catch blues legend Buddy Guy in concert at L'Auberge in March, chances are you'll have another chance to see him in the area in the future, as the guitarist and Lettsworth native is finally making the move back home to the Capital Region. Guy, who moved to Chicago in 1957 and has called the city home ever since, purchased a home in the Nicholson Drive/River Road area last week for a little over $1 million. "We've been home shopping for about a year," says Tigue Bonneval of Beau Box Commercial Real Estate, who brokered the deal. "Basically, I think he just wants to get back home." Bonneval says that Guy will keep his house in Chicago, but the Baton Rouge house will be his permanent home. "He's still going to have Buddy Guy's Legends, which is a big club in Chicago, but he's pretty much transitioning into the home here in Baton Rouge as his primary residence," Bonneval says. "He's playing in New Orleans in three days at the House of Blues. I'm sure he'll do much more here now." Bonneval says the move will take place gradually, as Guy is currently on tour. "It was pretty exciting hanging out with him, hearing stories about Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones while we'd ride around looking at properties," Bonneval says of his house-hunting experience with Guy. "It was a pretty unique experience." In March 2013 225 featured Guy on its cover in honor of his March 16 homecoming show at the Manship Theatre. Between songs at the show, Guy talked a lot about his Louisiana roots and connections to Baton Rouge, noting at one point that he has long thought about opening a blues club in the city.

He better play some local shows that aren't at casinos.

He could probably buy the BR Blues Room from Billy Stevens relatively cheap.
Hopefully, Buddy Guy builds a BR Blues club from scratch..a state of the art one.
Spanish Moon location just languishes away.

Hell yea!
Other than BB King, no other blues guitarist gets as much respect when they step on a stage

Took my girlfriend with me to see him at the casino when he played. She had heard maybe a song or two that I showed her. She mainly listens to stuff like John Mayer, but she does like blues music that I show her. She was blown away by him. He's been on my list to see ever since I really got into the blues when I was 18. We are 23/24 and were by the far the youngest there, but it was such an amazing show. The fact that he is 77 and still more of an entertainer than I've ever seen is pretty ridiculous. His voice sounded as good as ever. His playing isn't what it used to be, but it was still raw and passionate as always. Skin Deep was probably my favorite of the night.
I'm hoping he starts a blues club here as well. That would be huge, and with a respected name like Buddy Guy I think it could excel here.

Any updates on the move, and/or a BR club by Guy?
Really enjoyed Grohl paying Buddy Guy homage on the Foo-Sonic Highways Chicago episode.
Loved the Nawlins episode too.

that would be a terrible spot to put a "blues room"
besides, the spanish moon does ok for itself. it's managed to stay open this long...

Yeah what is that guy talking about? A legit blues club would be tits, but Spanish Moon is one of the very, very few respectable small venues in BR and gets really good acts.

The spanish moon is obviously profitable and has a consistently solid calendar, so that's a non starter.
But that Blues Room place seems like it could be a winner .... not too big and close to the the hotels.
On a side note - has anybody been to Brickyard South? I've seen pics, but curious what the vibe is like.

The venue itself is great. Big bar, ample seating, pool tables, decent drink specials. The acts they get and their marketing (or lack thereof)... Not so much.

Remember these three words: shuck and jive.
You will get a lot of that with BG, but when he's on it's a force that changes virgins into sluts.
