What will Detroit do with Greg Monroe?

We probably beat this topic to death this season, but I thought I would bring it up again. Detroit's new GM will have a big decision to make as soon as he takes office. Will he split up the overcrowded front court?
Greg Monroe might not even be an option for Dell and Monty, considering that his defensive numbers are pretty terrible. But Detroit will have close to $20 million in cap space this summer, thanks to the expiring contracts of Villanueva and Stuckey. How will they spend that money? Will they match all offers on Monroe? Let him walk for nothing? Attempt to gain some value via sign-and-trade?
The Piston's wouldn't be thrilled to absorb Gordon's contract with their cap space, but he would provide some much needed help in the backcourt. If they choose to let Monroe go, would they even sniff at Gordon? I don't think any free agents are dying to go to Detroit, so a sign and trade might be their best option.
They may get better offers than Gordon, or they may just rather him walk. But if they choose not to re-sign the big man, $20 million will be sitting in the bank. That money might prove hard to spend this summer, considering that Detroit isn't the most appealing destination and the free agent list isn't exactly booming with prospects.

There's already an article on this guy. LINK
Good timing to ask.

It's detroit, I am sure they will find a way to screw it all up

What do you want the Pistons to do with him? Just curious to hear a fan's point of view.

They will get better offers than Gordon. The only way we have a shot at Monroe is if you trade Anderson. I would see that as a lateral move, but this sounds like the type of deal 42 believes the team is interested in, one of the pieces we don't view as necessarily long term (anyone besides AD and Jrue) for a young big.

Bingo.
To make a long story short (at work), I have absolutely no clue what the Pistons do with Monroe. Depends on the new management team, coach, etc. I have mixed feelings about keeping him. Great player, hard worker, etc. He is TERRIBLE at defense. Josh Smith is a better 'PF' than Monroe.
With that being said, I can speak for every Pistons fan I know in saying that nobody wants Gordon. Teams don't trade young (and developing) bigs for moderately efficient SGs with injury and attitude concerns.

We don't want EG either my man
But as a Pistons fan what have you heard about potential moves in the offseason in regards to Smith, Monroe, & Drummond?

He would fit right in

Being 100% honest, I don't know, and I don't think anyone else knows either. I think it depends on the new GM and new head coach. There have been absolutely zero rumblings over the last month or so.
The Pistons openly tried to trade Smith during the season. They got some offers, but none of them worked out. As I said in the post before, Josh Smith is a better PF than Monroe. If the Pistons want to give up on this oversized frontcourt after one year, it probably makes more sense to get rid of Monroe, since he would give much more value back. Getting rid of Smith would only yield the Pistons quarters on the dollar. That's not the same case for Monroe. Drummond is untouchable.

I would imagine Detroit's priority is getting a new regime in place before rushing into anything. I don't think anything happens. They have the cap space to match a max offer. Even if he gets offered the max, surely a maxed out Monroe is worth more in a trade than Vasquez or Ayon, which is surely the precedent Dell or anyone else would point to as fair compensation for giving you the cap space of an RFA that doesn't fit your plans.

I think we all know where this conversation goes. We'd all like to get Monroe in a trade for EG, but Detroit can get better value in a trade for someone else. It's not likely we can trade EG until he's an expiring. It's not likely we can sign Monroe any time soon.

We're probably gonna stretch provision EG(I hope)

An Anderson-Monroe deal would be the only thing, but Anderson is currently injured.

I heard the Pistons are giving him to the Pelicans for free

Yall are sleeping on Enes Kanter.
Utah is paying Favors 8 figures, his offense is limited, and Kanter/Favors was disastrous in 800 minutes.
They drafted Gobert last summer. Parker and Randle have to be high on their wish list. Embiid too, but who knows with his health. Any of those guys make Kanter expendable
Not sure what they would want for Kanter, and he has holes in his game, but he's young, big, is a solid rebounder (10 PER 36) has a decent post game, and cheap.

Can we get a package deal?

Someone mentioned him the other day. I looked at his stats and he did seem like a less proven version of Monroe, ie decent rebounding, offensive big. Neither Monroe or Kanter are good defenders, but they have the size to save some of the wear and tear on AD, and one of Monty's concerns/wishes in his exit interview was a center that was good enough on offense to let AD be guarded by the opposing PF rather than C.
I wonder if Utah would have any interest in Gordon. They'll have a TON of cap space, well below the salary floor even if they max out Hayward. Maybe Gordon, Babbit and our 2015 1st for Kanter? I was willing to give up that pick to move Gordon, if you could do it to move Gordon and get your 3rd big...

I hate giving up consecutive firsts, but I wouldn't be upset with that trade.

Um, why do they want only pfs guarding Davis? Davis is skill and speed right now. How many centers can contain him from 15-18ft with his shot and dribble game? Or run with him down the court?
Monty never ceases to amaze me in his rigid positionality approach.

That's the catch. They know Hayward is not a number 1 option. Maybe they think Gordon gives them another creator to go with Burke? Burke, Gordon, Hayward, Burks is a nice 4 man perimeter core.
