You're right. It just wasn't one of the big names everyone goes for. Cost a little less. Solid mower for sure.
I think he got from a place that sells scags in Gonzales or Prairieville or something

One stump bump and they're toast. I've got a 15 year old exmark Laser-Z that I've hit lots of stuff with and it doesn't phase it. It just bounces off and keeps going.

Sure, if you have a bunch of those in your yard you'd wanna get a welded deck.

Bad Boys and Big Dogs are both new brands that have come in to try and take some market away from the big brands. They look like good mowers, but don't have the name recognition of the big commercial brands. Their warranty isn't quite up to the other brands which is why they can drop the sticker price. Ex-mark is trying to manufacture mowers that are like the big box store brands, meaning pressed decks and lower quality (IMO), so they can get more residential sales. I appreciated that they always high high standards for their mowers, but it seems now they are trying to cater to whoever.

With less than an acre you won't need more than a 42" deck with a zero turn. Cub cadets are fine, no matter what you buy you have to take care of it or it won't last.

For a lot that small, I'd only have 2 criteria:
1. Welded deck
2. Make sure there is an authorized service center nearby
The only other thing I might add is to get one where the deck is suspended by chains in front. But if your yard is fairly smooth, then a chain-hung deck is not a necessity.

got my gravely zt48 back from the shop yesterday. rolled it off the trailer and ran over the yard in under an hour.
why was it in the shop? after 5 years it started running bad. i had to run it at half choke. the seat was falling apart, needed general service, etc.
$400 and BMC in westlake, changed all the filters, all the oils, a solenoid, put me a new seat on it, performed a seance, sacrificed a chicken and ran over a baby opossum or two. she runs like the day i bought it now.
