These kind of movies give me a serious case of the feels.

Germantown and Martin Luther King High Schools were bitter rivals for over 40 years. This past year, a budget crisis caused Philadelphia to lay off over 4000 employees and close 37 schools, including Germantown High. Now Germantown must merge with their former rival, King. Against overwhelming odds, a 27-year old first time head coach and a new principal struggle to inspire young men from difficult circumstances to come together and lift each other toward a better future.
Two-time Emmy® nominated director Judd Ehrlich uses an intimate, unflinching lens to tell a story much larger than the Martin Luther King Cougars. As the threat of more drastic budget cuts and the loss of funding for athletics looms large, WE COULD BE KING examines the crisis of education in urban America, and celebrates the power of sports to bring young people, neighborhoods, and a city together.

I will probably miss it if it's on during the fights this Saturday, but I will check it out sometime.

Looks great....
not stuff for the movie/tv board, but does anyone else have a problem with the quote "without football, these students have no reason to want to come to school"?

Depends on the school. At some I'm sure that's true.

Coaches that take on these kinds of challenges deserve mad respect.

Do I have a problem with it? Yeah, and everyone should. However, that's the reality for a lot of failing schools around the country (not just inner city schools), which is a big reason why cutting out arts and music programs is a horrible atrocity as a lot of the same kids that either aren't or don't want to besports-oriented don't have an outlet of their own to justify to themselves that going to school is ok.

Yea they do. It takes a hard-arse who has been in a similar situation (or apparently Jimmy Johnson according to 30 for 30) to even begin to reach these kids. It's hard enough for a kid to get out of a situation like that, much less to go back to it and make changes.

Meh, don't watch then. I'm a sucker for these types of docs.

Is this the next "Hoop Dreams" but for football?

Looks great.
When I watch things like that, it makes me realize how glad I am that my son plays football for the high school. It's a pain in my arse until he turns 16 (only 6 more months!) but I think that kind of hard work and accountability and brotherhood is important to becoming a man.
And I need to get him to watch too, to realize how lucky is is to have a great school and great coaches and involved parents. Lots of other kids aren't so lucky.

Not really, not everyone is motivated to better themselves with education. Plenty of kids need some sort of extra curricular activity to get them to want to show up to school. There are a lot of people that would be better off going to a trade school than taking the high school/college track. Them going to school and pursuing football is better than them doing the activities they would be doing if they didn't have football.
