How often do you get a jury duty notice?

I have never gotten one before. Sooner or later my luck is going to run out. What happens if you don't show up? What is the easiest way to get out of it?

Got Federal District 3 times in 5 years. Canceled every time.
Parish once. Excused due to not living in parish for past 2 years.

I've gotten one in 16 years of being able to vote.

3 times in 10 years (parish) after college. Just got the questionnaire again so a 4th is coming up soon.
ETA: I actually find it interesting and never try to get out of it. I don't lose pay by doing it, though.

Just do your service. You wouldn't want everyone trying their hardest to get out of it if you were on trial.

Scruffy got one last year, but he was excused for being too handsome and distracting.

3 times in the last 10 years or so... two 19th JDC and one Federal.
I've always gone, have never been selected and typically done in 2-3 days.
I do get paid still, though, so I guess if I was hourly or owned my own business I would try to get out of it.

So you've never been called for jury duty but are asking how to get out of it?
Pathetic post. Pathetic.

Im 32 and have only had jury duty once, a couple years ago....I waited in the room with all the others for 2 or 3 hours, watched a movie, and then got dismissed.

Got two in the last two years, one state, one federal. Cancelled both times.
If you don't show up, they can send someone after you. They don't always bother with it, but you run the risk. It usually has to be a damn good excuse, like it would be a severe work hardship-not just an inconvenience, but you're self employed and your business would have to shut down, that sort of thing. Or you're the sole caregiver of a disabled family member. My parish will allow you to set a more convenient date one time, then you have to show up no matter what, no excuse.

I started getting them as soon as I moved to BR from Arkansas & registered to vote here & got my DL changed to LA. I got them every two years for a while, and had to serve on a couple of juries, but most of the time sat in a little room in the jury pool on the tenth floor of the governmental building wasting time for most of the week.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend that.

Have a baby and/or move.

Jury Duty envelopes are never sent certified mail.
meaning there is no way for them to know if you got your notice or not.
Just a FYI.
There is no warrant or fine for not going.

I've gotten two notices. The first I sat in a library downtown for three days reading before I was told I didn't have to come back. For the second I didn't have to show up.

In the past 20 years I've received two notices. Both were cancelled, thank goodness.
