Fair enuff sf, but do you care about anything besides the big 3-4? Because you post about them A LOT...just asking, friendly fire here, you seem to follow all sports like I do...so maybe we agree to not agree, i think we should win more and you dont care..fine

Les has lost control of the tennis programs.

the real reason we lag behind in some of the "other" sports, as you put it, is the same reason that you felt you had to put a disclaimer in that you are a big 3 sports fan first and foremost. i'm not sure why some of our fellow LSU fans dismiss the other sports as "lesser." the fact is that there is such a singular focus on a very few sports, both by the administration and the fanbase, that the others are neglected all-but entirely. hence, the poor tennis facilities.

Well, we hired a women's coach just two seasons ago. It isn't like Tony Minnis left her in a great position. In fact she is recruiting lights out for the shitty facilities we have for tennis. We brought in our highest ranked recruiting class in school history last year, so for frick's sake give her some time.
As for the men's, well, I think he does an okay job considering his resources. I say give him a year with the new tennis facility, and if he still fails to recruit top talent, then fire him. Doesn't seem like a complex situation to me.

Or maybe because the lesser sports are money pits, whereas the big 3 are money generators?
Just guessing.
Just guessing.

Fans from every school are like that except most lump baseball in with the "olympic" sports.

sure, i'm not disputing that at all. but many other schools also spend less on their football, basketball, and baseball programs, so they are more likely to have higher degrees of equity between all of their sports.

Since you like Tennis so much, you'll love the fact that TAF just had a $10+ million project bid last Thursday to build a new indoor facility and outdoor grand stand facility....

Poor coaching, poor evaluation, poor recruiting.

NOT a big deal, but...Men's Tennis finished last in SEC, women's 12th, why
Short answer, inferior facilities.

THE NEW LSU TENNIS FACILITY
The New LSU Tennis Facility is a project years in the making. The LSU Men's and Women's Tennis teams are one of the only teams in the SEC that do not currently have indoor facilities to both practice and play in during bad weather. This new facility will not only provide the LSU Teams with access to indoor facilities but will increase LSU's practice time, which will allow the teams to compete with other SEC schools in recruiting the best upcoming student-athletes.
Good news is, we addressed that issue in a big way...
...and we will now have one of, if not the best tennis facilities in the conference, as well as the country. UGA's is generally regarded as the best current tennis facility, and LSU's new facility will be bigger than theirs.
THE NEW LSU TENNIS FACILITY
TAF doin' work!

Aggies do not have an indoor tennis facility either and just won the SEC tournament so I am not sure that excuse works.

Grats on that. But since our new Tennis Center will be ready for next season, we won't need that excuse anymore.

Is it unreasonable to expect we at least challenge for an SEC title every 5-10 years in EVERY sport?
I know nothing about the men's tennis team.
But I looked at their website and the current coach, Jeff Brown, has been here since 1998. From 1998 to 2013, LSU finished the season ranked in the Top 25, 12 times in his 16 years here.
In those same 16 years, LSU has finished 3rd or better in the SEC 8 times.
Finishing 3rd or better in the conference is challenging for a SEC title, no? I am asking, because I really dont know how the tennis standings work
Also, they have been to the NCAA Tourney 15 times in his 16 years, while getting past the 1st round 13 of those 15 times.

Here is your real answer: LSU has the worst facilities in the SEC in tennis, and is in the bottom 10 nationally, which obviously hurts recruiting
The same holds true for LSU Gymnastics. They have the worst facility in the SEC,but they manage to get recruits and are in the top of the Nation in performance. So the facilities theory does not hold water. In fact LSU Softball did better in the old worn out facilities than they have done in the new Softball facilities.
The real answer is that the tennis coach knows someone in high places and there is no accountability. Why else would you still be the coach next year if you lead your team to the bottom of the SEC. Politics allow for lame excuses by coaches.
