Yea I just saw this on fb. NYPD should have known better, who is in charge of PR for them? Talk about a terrible move.

To be honest, the only picture that looks like abuse is #4.
#2 and #3 appear to be proper technique for handcuffing. The suspect in #2 does not appear to be happy about it, I'll grant you that.
Still, not a good idea for the NYPD, especially in this era of cop hating.

Does this have anything to do with that douchebag jumping the subway turnstile?

Yes. Camera phones.
It's true that a picture speaks a thousand words, but it's often not nearly enough.
When a person sees a picture of what is obviously a physical and heated moment, (I want to use the word "violent" but I think it conveys more negativity than I intend), then our immediate reaction is to side with the apparent "victim", or weaker looking person.
It's telling that we have NO IDEA what is happening in these pictures but we make the assumption that the police are doing something wrong, when in fact, they may be doing something very right.
Being a cop and doing police work is very dangerous, and very necessary. A snap shot of some dude flat on his belly under a cops knees could very well be a picture of the arrest of a violent rapist, or who knows what.
At a minimum, we should acknowledge that to take a picture of a policeman in action as they confront an alleged law breaker is to necessarily take a snap shot of a very intense, often hostile, and always physically confrontative moment in time.

no not necessarily. That's some cop pipe dream where most of their job is exciting. The reality is that shits boring and they frick with people when they're bored because that's how they advance and it gives them something to do.

I don't really care about these particular pictures. I just think it's funny that it's backfired.
I see videos come across my newsfeed all the time having to do with police misconduct. It's been going on for years, but now technology has allowed civilians to capture it.

I didn't say that. I said:

That doesn't happen 24/7. But it's a regular occurrence.

So your assertation is that while they don't all the time when they do see someone who is breaking the law the situation can only be resolved by the police in a harsh manner, there are no other options for the officers?

It's a dangerous job seems to be the main excuse for acting like a jag off.

Officer fatalities by year nationwide:
2013: 100
2012: 122
2011: 171
2010: 161
2009: 125
Total over 5 years: 679 officers
That's not really that bad considering what they'd have you believe.
I find it extremely interesting that I'm not able to find any reliable information on how many people are killed by police each year. Apparently that is not a tracked statistic.

It's more dangerous to be around police than it is to a police officee.
You never know when those sociopaths are going to let out their aggression.
