teenagers are fricking morons, they should have a big say in what theyre gonna do but parents need to act like parents.
Agree. It's a delicate balance. You have to trust that you taught your kids morals, ethics shite like that and then let them make their own decisions. If you tie them to your wife's apron then they will be morons the moment they turn 18. Seen that too many times. If you ignore them as kids so they can be "individuals" they they won't have a clue how to function in society. OP is wrong to think this is "his" choice.

Send her to LSU..It would basically be free for her.
And she would be a Tiger and we get another doctor in Louisiana...everybody wins!
also, pics of said wife would be proper thing to do

Being a parent trumps politics.
Which is what bugs the shite out of me regarding the OP. He should want what is best for his kid. Not his political viewpoint.

I hope for your sake you've been drinking or awake for 48 hours, because if you were of clear mind when you typed that and thought it sounded clever, then i won't be so hard on you anymore, understanding your mental issues

oh no not that! A random internet poster doesn't think I sound clever.
Surely it will be hard to sleep this evening as I rethink my entire existence.

I cannot make it past the first page. I can't believe anyone would consider turning down a top flight education because of the possibility of liberal brainwashing. I'm not joking . . . that's just embarrassing

Hahah well if you can't sleep let me know, we'll go have a beer and talk about this thread

Idk, the numbers I looked at show you are allowed more "wiggle room" with stats if you go to an elite school.
Litany of examples, to the contrary in fact.
e.g., UNC is one of top rated public schools in the country. I can tell you without equivocation there is a 0.4-0.6 GPA differential Duke vs UNC with equal candidates and equal workloads. I can also tell you that IAW Medschool admissions stds, a UNC 3.8 would trump a Duke 3.3 in the vast majority of instances.
Again, not fair. But factual.
OTOH, if one survives the gambit of an undergrad program at a top tier: Chicago, Northwestern, WashU, Stanford, UPenn, etc., one is almost certainly better equipped to handle the next level.

the page where 17/19 posts after the OP tell the OP to send his daughter to Princeton, or dismiss the political orientation discussion altogether? that first page?

what about the insane grade inflation at Ivies, though? how do you know what these kids can handle?

Well if there is a huge disconnect between GPA and MCAT score, that would be the first red flag. Its situations like this why standardized tests exist.

i agree. but i'm just speaking of the difference
if you don't have a great GPA and you're from an ivy, that takes some effort

This definitely may be true, but, like you said, UNC isn't just some run of the mill public school. When I made my statement I was thinking public state schools ranked more in the 100s as opposed to top 25-30 overall in the nation public schools like UVA, UMich, UCLA, UC-Berk, UNC, etc etc

So I get home and my daughter shows me this.
This is a blog from a girl from our area that is a senior at Yale. This makes me feel a little better.

i don't see what is so shocking that you can't comprehend a parent worried about his daughter changing something he's obviously nurtured in her. ignore that it's politics, and this is a very typical "parent" move.
would you have the same response if he was not supportive (or at least uneasy) with a girl he's raised to be responsible and chaste who uttered a desire to go to a school like Texas Tech, ASU, etc?
