I mean it was traded thirty years ago so it will be traded now right? You brought up the trade scenario not me

I hate agreeing with Max, but this is a pathetic attempt at a moving the goalpost argument

You insinuated it when you said this

Right, since that pick is ineligible to be traded.

I mean I was obviously wrong on the trade part but that doesn't change the fact that trading the first overall pick is extremely rare and hard to do in the modern draft

This is the second one they've put out. Obviously trying to see how bad some of the teams behind them want either Clowney or Mack.

No one is saying that the pick is or isn't going to be traded. What they're saying is that all of this "information" comes out in order to make teams re-think thier draft strategy and potentially offer a ridiculous trade to make sure they get the guy they absoultely want.

Make no mistake, Houston already knows who they will pick with the 1st selection. They put something like this out there to entice trade offers. The media is just a pawn in the negotiations and fans (like the OP) flip out over every nugget of information.

So the team should not try to get the most out of it because its only happened 5-6 times I'm the past?

True. Most of the scenarios I've seen revolved around Robinson. I was wrong and overreacted here but mainly because picking Mack first is the kind of move Smith would pull

They probably do but maybe not. they put this out there when dealing with their agent/salaries and what they can negotiate contracts for. Texans have like 11 picks with I think about a 12 million cap space. Where's the best value? Clowney at one or a Qb at one or a long shot with half the cost? It was done with Mario. His contract was a better value than what they would have paid for Bush or Young.

The #2 pick was traded two years ago (and the only reason nobody tried for the #1 is because the Colts made it clear that they were closed for business) and the #3 was traded last year.

I can't imagine trading the #1 is an order of magnitude tougher, especially considering some team will pay big for Clowney.
