Reading this is what actually made me ask the first question I did in this thread..
You guys have spent a lot of money and now its finally paying off with a good manager. But many times Liverpool just wasted cash and had results not good enough for the investment.
Thats never been the United way, and SAF was never a huge buyer.

C'mon, don't try to imply that we are some big spenders and you aren't... yeah, AC was a waste of money, it happens.. see Juan Sebastian Veron for £28.1 in 2001
Honestly, I know LFC fans are licking their chops that we are going to bring in big marquee signings this summer, but I am skeptical... I think we'll be buying players that are on the cusp of "stardom" so to speak... We'll see

Spurs had to spend to replace their star player who bailed them out repeatedly. That's always going to be exponentially harder than addressing normal turnover that hasn't been addressed appropriately, especially when your most expensive signing has spent the year on the bench.

In the last ten years Liverpool has spent more but im saying SAF only had to go on these big spending sprees like twice. The rest was buying one or two impact players a year and bring up young guys. Going wild like City or Chelsea year after year is something we don't do. Calling us cheap compared to City and Chelsea is just dumb.

well, yeah as it should be... City had to do what they did to get competitive fast, but I'm assuming that will curtail somewhat, to what degree of success, who nows?

I'm sure it can work out in certain circumstances, but I think they would have been better off buying 3-4 this year and adding 3-4 next season...

I wonder what the net spending is over that period... In the past 5 years, you have spent (net) more than us..
But, I also think that you just can't look at £ spent on transfers, you need to factor in wages... That's how City got some of their players initially...

Realistically, that's probably how it will work out, but if eight players who are good enough were available, I wouldn't see the big deal. I don't think that they'll be able to secure eight players who are good enough for the level that United wants to be at, however.

The problem with rebuilding in the PL is that clubs are almost too results oriented at first. Liverpool was smart to see Rodgers' vision for the club and let him work through a semi rough year and now they're seeing the payoff.
Manchester United probably wouldn't want to suffer through another bad season even if the signs were pointing in the right direction and the style of play was steadily increasing.
If they were to hire Klopp, I think they'd probably finish 4-7 next year and people would want him gone as well, but they'd be so much better off in the long run.

I'll disagree with you here. Of course we want results and a return to the champion's league, but I think most United fans would comfortable with another 4-7 finish if the club had a since of direction and vision like SCH said.
I felt like Moyes was CLUELESS at a lot of his pressors and he did not give off a vibe of confidence and direction.
