I have never seen the allure of that vehicle, nor, have I had many men point out a BMW to me and tell me that they want one. Obviously everyone has a different opinion on cars, I just see mostly 30-40 year old women with them.
Not sure what age demographic you fall into or associate with, but several guys I know in my age group (mid to late 20's) all rushed to lease BMW's literally as their first car after getting their first job. None of them made a salary greater than $50,000. They did it solely for the status symbol. None of them found it foolish that they were spending 25% of their monthly income on their lease payments.

I will never understand buying a car you can't afford as a status symbol.

You mean if he has no social life, an 8 year old car, and a crappy apartment?
In that case sure. I guess that's comfortable to some people.
Well if his social life involved doing an 8 ball a weekend, buying extravagant sports cars, constantly going on vacation, and being a douchebag in general, then yeah he can't afford that. But if you're just normal, want to have a good time, and live in a nice neighborhood, then 55K can buy that. Douche.

I made 2250 take home right out of college per month and was fine I had an apartment at 750 and no car payment though
Why pay a apartment note at 800 dollars when you can have a house not for a 100 dollars more

There's a lot of times it makes sense to rent.

Is it really? I'm not doubting you, I'm truly curious. That seems insanely low for a four year degree. I thought it would have been closer to a 75-80k a year average.
You need to get out in the real world, dumbass. If you're making 80K straight out of college, then you're a real baller and got really lucky. Out of my social group (and we're all doing well for ourselves), only one of us is making that kind of cash. Sure, eventually we'll be making that kind of money, but a year or two out of college, absolutely not.

Maybe he thought he might be moving or something. Why do you think there are so many apartments? It's not for everyone to buy a house right away
Posted on 4/16/14 at 10:52 pm to LSUTiger23
That's pretty good, I just hired a management degree fresh out of college for $14 an hour
Posted on 4/16/14 at 10:53 pm to CP3LSU25
I probably can't buy a house for another 5 years or so because I might have to move around a bit before I'm settled. I'd rather not rent but I'm not going to buy a house when I know I won't be in it for the next 20 years.

Any kid coming out of a 4-year program wondering whether 55k/year is adequate is fricked to begin with. What did your folks make? Did they go to college? I thought if I got out of school and could hook 30 or 35k, I was blessed. And I ain't that far removed, nor did I get a degree in History or Political Science.

You right. I would just rather a home I can cook and watch football games etc. I would hate to work hard and live in an apartment
