Annunciation Restaurant?

Anyone been? Group wants to go there tonight, and I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy about this place.

Didn't do much for me. I'd prefer the place it's riffing on and, with apologies to glassman, even that doesn't crack my top 15-20 places in town.

Thx. I'm pushing for them to go to Peche. If they insist on Annunciation, I'll develop a severe case of the phantom flu and pass.

Ehhh, it's not that bad. Peche would assuredly be preferable, though.

Agreed. Haven't been, but my gut feeling tells me it's probably on Kingfish's level. Not terrible, not great.

With a group, I doubt you'll get into Peche last minute. I called last week to get a ressie for 8 people for Wednesday night and they only had really early and really late openings.

We can get in at Peche at 8. For some inexplicable reason, they have it in their heads that Annunciation is the epitome of fine, creole dining.

Although if I had just one meal in New Orleans, it wouldn't be my first choice, but I enjoyed it the last time I was there. I had the scallop with foie gras and the sweetbreads. Give it a whirl.

What's the dish on the left side of the photo?
Posted on 4/15/14 at 3:15 pm to pmacneworleans
That's the sweetbreads dish.
The theme and rule the last time I spent a week in Nawlins is that every dinner had to include some sort of liver, which is how I chose Annunciation.

Different version of sweetbreads than what I'm used to seeing.

Agree with everyones opinions here. I have been twice and while nothing was bad, nothing was great either.

I've not dined there but have been. I think it's at a higher level then Kingfish but not by a mile. Probably closer to Martinique with a slightly more interesting menu.

Seconded. Tough to pass judgment without having tasted them.. but jesus christ I hope they were a couple other people there to split that with. Looks heavy as frick.

Never seen sweetbread logs before.

For real. Presentation would be a turn off for me as soon as they sat those down.

I like sweetbreads that are a little more delicate, a la Bayona or Flaming Torch. Fine line between Annunciation's (heavy batter, rich sauce) and, say, Apolline (underseasoned and dry).

I'm all about sweetbreads, and that doesn't look good. I definitely like it simpler, like at La Boca.

Pretty much. I had the Mahi Mahi when I went. It was prepared well enough, but was hardly anything special.
